🧵It’s extremely disturbing a UK-based media outlet (BBC) labeled the serial poisoning of & possible bio-chemical attacks on Iran’s schools & universities as “mass hysteria” while Iranians are protesting against the inaction & suspicious role of the regime in these incidents. 1/6 ImageImage
Mass Psychogenic Illness label has been used to mock climate change activists, transgenders, female politicians & COVID-19 regulations & vaccines. So please let pause before coming to conclusions so rapidly about the non-existent organic aetiology in this case as BBC claimed. 2/6
The article includes misinformation as well.
1.The first case of these serial poisonings occurred in Yazd, as opposed to the claim by BBC that it happened in Qom.
2.Several boys schools & university dormitories have reported similar incidents where adults were hospitalised 3/6
3. The number of students suffered from poisoning are over 2300, more than double of the number claimed by BBC. Also locations of attacks are inaccurate in BBC article. The map below of the locations of attacks has been verified by scientists INSIDE Iran & available publicly 4/6 Image
While the collective wisdom of Iranians is convinced these are serious planned attacks on the future generation of Iran and is focused to prove it using factual data, UK-based media are better to only monitor & LISTEN to the victims instead of amplifying IR propaganda. 5/6
I’m no expert myself. My point is while medical experts & scientists on the ground are working hard on samples & symptoms, it’s absolutely irresponsible of a foreign media to repeat the words of the propaganda machine of the Islamic regime in Iran. 6/6 #SaveIranianSchoolgirls
.@1500tasvir says that all three photos used in this report were sent to them by Iranians who trusted their suffering & pain wouldn’t be exploited. @1500tasvir_en says @bbcpersian had no right to make such a report using these photos. Shame @BBCMonitoring @BBCRealityCheck
Gas smell has been reported at a hospital where schoolchildren were being treated for poisoning earlier at their schools. #ChemicalAttackOnSchools

The 1st mention of panic & hysteria to explain #IranChemicalAttacks on schools &more that I could find is this article by G. Esfandiari in @RFERL on 24 February. Can Twitter help me to find if there r any earlier references to “mass hysteria” in explaining these mass poisonings? ImageImage
