So strange afternoon at my dad's. COVID came up & they were both telling me about Oregon lifting mask mandate in medical settings. Then the most peculiar thing occurred. My dad said he had COVID twice but it was really mild both times. His gf said she had it once.
She said it was very mild for her as well, "so mild it was like I wasn't sick at all & maybe I didn't have COVID & the test was wrong. I've never had COVID." I was stunned. Truly.
My dad was more accurate. He had COVID twice. 1st time was mild. 2nd time, however, was moderate to severe. He was put on prednisone once his infection cleared as he was still having difficulty breathing due to inflammation in his lungs.
His gf? She's been symptomatic & tested positive for COVID at least 4 times in the last year. 1st and 2nd infection, she had pneumonia & was sick for 6 weeks. 3rd infection, less details on as housemate was infected & ICU, put into palliative care. Dad was a mess.
4th infection, shingles reactivated. His gf did recollect that her doc said that she'd become very immunocompromised & that reactivated the shingles.
They don't remember any of this. I just sat silent, wondering if I should start showing them both their text messages or what.
It was eerie. I ended up just sitting silent, in shock, hearing this strange & peculiar history that did NOT match at all what they had actually been experiencing over the last year. I'm stymied.
Strangely enough, both were angry and alarmed at the lifting of the mask mandate in medical settings as endangering to them both so at least there was that.
His gf is still masking.
