Ideas for co-housing in Danforth East:
Combine the co-housing with a business
e.g. A daycare,
A co-working space
A co-working + daycare like theworkaround.ca
A vet clinic (new one crop up in this hood all the time)
Reason to do co-housing in Danforth East rather than move out to cheaper land in Scarborough.
- cheaper long term b/c
- residents need fewer cars/parking spots
- stay within car- and bike- share perimeters
- there are probably other city-provided amenities that the co-housing won’t need to offer “in-house” that I can’t think of just now.
- pool?
- gym?
And when I say “city-provided” I don’t necessarily mean city gov’t.
Co-housing roof:
-solar panels is a no brainer.
- but most condo boards are missing out on an opportunity to make income with cell tower equipment on their roofs.
Prolly should’ve opened with def’n of co-housing as a cluster of between 15 and 35 households living “together” sharing “stuff”, like space (a yard, a patio, a common room), things (tools, laundry facilities, cars, bikes), values (a low carbon lifestyle..)
& not least..meals
A lot of co-housing groups taking shape in Ontario rn are formed around retirees, but that needn’t be the case. Most of the models outside Canada are inter generational.
With the avg. HH size in TO currently being 2.4, that means a group of between 36 and 84 ppl.
