If there are any transgender persons in LA who want to arm themselves and train themselves for self-defense in anticipation of an impending pogrom when the GOP seizes power, here is my advice. As you can see I am well trained myself... #BePrepared 🏳️⚧️
Auto pistols come in 3 sizes: full for the house/car, compact for carry with adequate clothing to conceal, and subcompact for summer attire. I always suggest starting with a Glock 9mm or .40 SW. Glocks are the Honda Civic of guns: reliable, user friendly, and easily modified.
Everyone should own an AR-15. It is the best design with the least recoil. User friendly and easy to modify, with a smorgasbord of aftermarket parts available. In CA must have a fixed stock, no foregrip or flash hider, & CA legal grip. Must be MIL-SPEC at minimum. $600-1200~
It is near impossible to get a CCW in LA County but you can carry in your car trunk or under driver seat with a hard car gun safe that locks by combo. Must be unloaded but mags can be in same box. Best CCW carry holsters are IWB Blade-Tech, Galco or Cross Breed.
You need a proper optic for a rifle that is visible in bright light. Eotech, Aimpoint, Trijicon & Holosun are all GTG red dots with many models. Variable optics are popular for distance, but 💰. Swarovski, Trijicon, US Optics & Vortex are all TOTL with multiple options.
CA limits mag capacity to 10 rounds. Buying, selling, importing, or assembling a hi capacity magazine is a felony. DON'T DO IT! However, mere possession is not a crime, except in LA and SF Cities it's a simple misdemeanor.
Best to use factory Glock mags for your pistol and aluminum mags for your rifle. Pmags are popular and I use them for competition but the feed lips break over time with hard usage. As with everything guns, you get what you pay for.
Body armor is still legal so get a proper rig. Lots of options but it MUST have at minimum level III plates. Get ceramic not metal plates, lighter and less chance of fragment wounds. Soft concealable armor should be minimum level III-A. Most allow a plate insert for vital areas.
Mag pouches can be added to the front of a molle plate carrier. You get what you pay for. Belts and belt pouches/holsters are important too. I use Blade-Tech everything, but Safariland is also excellent kit.
If you've never handled a gun before I suggest you get a lesson. Black Coyote Collective and Socialist Rifke Association offer trans friendly training. Otherwise I suggest Route 66 Range in San Bernardino. If an employee there disrespects you get their name and lmk.
Once competent to safely handle and holster a firearm start shooting USPSA.org. Route 66 has a match every Saturday but there are others. Use the club finder on the site to find them. LEAVE YOUR POLITICS AT HOME and club members will not hesitate to help you.
I'd be happy to take you for your first match, so long as you can safely handle and holster a firearm. We do not play with safety! Any violation of safety protocol is an instant ticket home for the day. As long as you learn from your mistake, you are welcome back the next time.
Last thing is BUY A FUCKING HOUSE SAFE! Minimum 500 lbs so it can't be picked up easily. Bolt it to the floor. Keep all guns in there except those you have staged for self-defense. NEVER leave a loaded gun within reach of a child. That is a felony in CA and grossly unethical.
The second most important component for an AR is the trigger. You should spend $150-250 on that alone. Easy to install yourself using YouTube vids. Geissele is the most popular and durable but there are other options. 2 stage trigger is best for proper trigger control.
Qualifier: ceramic plates are generally lighter than steel and less likely to produce fragment wounds but can crack and have a shelf life of about 5 years. AR500 has a new alloy plate the A3 that is lighter than either but is 💰 and not yet certified by NIJ (but likely will be).
Here is the cheapest quality level 4 ceramic plate on the market.
A RICO case I observed in LA last year had not just 1, but 2 rapists testify against the defendant and the Obama-appointed judge barred the jury from knowing this because it was too prejudicial. The defendant was black of course. He got 35 years in BOP.
I should also mention that their FBI handler got officially reprimanded for trying to save them from a rape conviction. At least one of the victims was a minor literally kidnapped off the street. Upside is that the handler couldn't testify or it would be fair game on cross.
Yesterday afternoon @ASAnews had security eject me from the conference because earlier in the day I dared to critique Brittany Freidman's presentation on the book she's working on about BGF. #ASA2022
I used to be tight with B I even had her crash at my pad when she was in LA doing her fieldwork. She a out of towner of course. For years I had shared copies of my work with her pre-publication even though she had never shared anything she was working on with me. 2/
When my Invisible Hand article got published in 2020 after 3 rounds of R&R&R I emailed her with the good news and to congratulate her after seeing her interview in Jacobin. 3/
