Another difference is that the left-wing maximalist stance is held by no one except activists you made up whereas the right-wing maximalist stance is currently being codified into law in numerous states.

The wildest thing is that all these "reasonable concerns" are based on nothing! Five years of panicked articles haven't produced a single confirmed case of a kid being rushed into gender-affirming surgery. We're in razorblades-in-apples territory.

This entire "debunking" consists of two facts:

1. One of the supportive parents may have had pro-trans views before having a trans kid.
2. Another front office worker didn't have medical expertise.

Neither of these are remotely relevant to the issue at hand.
As usual Jesse has zeroed in on a series of technical discrepancies without providing any explanation of why they're relevant to his case.

A single parent being a "trans activist" doesn't negate the fact that numerous families contradict Reed's account and 0 confirm it.
As for the other front office worker, it's not clear to me that she's ever claimed to have medical expertise. All she's said is that Reed acted unprofessionally. Her qualifications don't call that into question.

He is defending the account of a front office staffer claiming to have medical knowledge by pointing out that another front office staffer didn't have medical knowledge. ImageImage
Reminder: What's at issue here is the firsthand account of a gender clinic staffer who is making implausible, unsubstantiated claims.
Rather than substantiate them, Jesse is working on questioning the credibility of people criticizing her account.

Jesse's entire recent career rests on the premise that thousands of children are getting hormones and surgeries because they were bewitched by pro-trans Tumblr posts but he cannot imagine a middle-aged woman reading anti-trans media and believing it.
Right-wing media is *awash* in tall tales of kids peeing in litter boxes and getting hormones on a whim. Jesse's own work has reinforced this myth.
A clinic staffer finding these stories and fitting reality to her biases seems pretty plausible to me!
Reed's affidavit is full of right-wing tropes. At one point she says trans suicide rates are exaggerated.
This is common messaging in anti-trans advocacy — and one to which Jesse has contributed.

Everyone with even a passing familiarity with the academic research and right-wing messaging on this issue told him it was irresponsible to take her allegations at face value. He dismissed those empirical concerns in favor of some baffling debate-club thought experiment. Image
Jon is lying. The entire premise of his piece was that "activists" refused to acknowledge real problems in transition care — but there's no evidence of these problems aside from sketchy anecdotes like Reed's! This is the core of the "debate"!
