You’ve probably noticed that it’s currently snowing in #Cardiff so we wanted to give you a quick update on the current state of play across the city.
Our schools have been risk assessed on a case-by-case basis and the vast majority are open as planned.
Four schools are impacted. They are:
•The Court School – closed.
•Pentyrch Primary School – closed.
•Cardiff West Community High School – opening at 9:45.
•Cantonian High School – KS3 class closed – 6 learners impacted.
It is not expected that any further school closures will occur today, and all other Council services are operating as planned, although there have been some minor impacts on special school bus services.
Most roads are running well and traffic is light, although there are some issues in north Cardiff on Caerphilly Mountain Road and Rhiwbina Hill.
Cardiff Bus is running all services with some minor tweaks to residential areas with roads off Heol Isaf not being served, and similarly in north-east Cardiff in terms of St Edeyrns.
The Met Office says to expect periods of snow and increasingly sleet today with periods of heavy rain later this afternoon and evening. Some further snow overnight for a time but more rain again on Thursday morning.
This should make it harder for snow to settle on roads and pavements that are wet, but with wet untreated surfaces, when the temperature drops, there could be the potential of increased ice risk.
Priority routes will be gritted, and are running well, but extra care should still be taken, particularly on untreated roads and pavements.
Details of priority routes are available here: orlo.uk/Cea31
Some areas across the region may experience larger quantities of snow, which may disrupt travel into Cardiff for a time.

In case there’s any confusion over our tweet earlier in this thread, Cantonian High School is open with the exception of one small class of six pupils from KS3.

Over the summer more than 1200 residents from communities across Cardiff took part in our online survey, sharing their views on our draft vision for a replacement Local Development Plan (LDP) for Cardiff.
Maybe that doesn’t sound much, but for a consultation on planning strategy, which let’s be honest isn’t a subject that gets everybody’s pulse racing, it’s actually a pretty good figure.
30% of responses, from people who shared their postcodes with us, came from areas of Cardiff with the highest levels of deprivation, helping us get a better spread of views.
You’ve might have heard about the new Indoor Arena proposed for Atlantic Wharf, but you definitely won’t have seen this brand new image of the 15,000 capacity live entertainment venue.
Looks pretty good, we think. But so does this one…
🏙️ We need to talk about planning, because let’s face it, whether it’s a proposal to build a high-rise around the corner, the struggle to find an affordable place to live, or something as simple as building an extension to your kitchen, it affects all of us.
So how does planning in #Cardiff work? Truth is, it’s complicated. Social media isn’t always the best place for complicated (and let’s be honest, sometimes controversial) issues, but it’s important, so we’re going to give it a try in this THREAD.
It does get exciting we promise (later we'll tell you about your chance to help shape Cardiff's future).
