Mehrak knew, the moment she got picked up from the ruins, that she had found her Goddess once again.
She's been sleeping for a long time in the ruins, a djinn who lost her way the day Malikata died.
Dwelling inside a sentinent that King Deshret built, her consciousness faded, but never died, waiting. Believing that someday, her Goddess would come for her again.
And she did! Except...
"Ah...! Y-You're alive?"
...had her Goddess reincarnated into a male human?
Mehrak blinked, and the Goddess-reincarnation laughed.
"Oh, you're really alive! Look at you, aren't you adorable?" The human cooed at her while holding a metal tool in his hand.
He had beautiful golden hair with brown tips, a pair of the brightest crimson eyes Mehrak had seen.
His smile was radiant, almost like the sun—Mehrak was mesmerised.
She tried speaking. "My Lady! I missed you!"
But the only voice that came out was a series of cold, electronic-like sounds.
Oh, no.
"Lady? Oh, do you have an owner before?" The human asked her.
...did he understood what Mehrak had said?
"I'm sorry. The ruins had been abandoned for hundreds of years... Your owner's most likely dead by now," he gave Mehrak a small, sad smile. "I found you buried beneath the stones. Alhaitham told me to leave you alone, but how could I?"
"Beep-beep?" Alhaitham?
"He's my roommate... E-Erm, no, my landlord... Wait, that's not right either..." The human muttered to himself. "Whatever! He's not important. Oh, wait! I haven't told you my name, have I?" The human smiled again, and Mehrak felt warm. "I'm Kaveh!"
"Beep!" Kaveh! Mehrak said. It's a beautiful name. Like her Goddess, and her reincarnation right now.
"...talking to robots now?"
Kaveh yelped and turned around. Mehrak also peered to see a tall human standing behind Kaveh. Pale gray hair, and cold teal eyes with unique pupils—
"Beep beep!" King Deshret!
Mehrak flew closer to Kaveh. She never liked Deshret back then, even when her Goddess was still alive. He was calculating, cold, and perhaps, in the eyes of mere Jinn like Mehrak, ruthless. She rattles, hoping it would sound like she's hissing.
"Would you learn to knock first before entering someone's room, Alhaitham?!" Kaveh barked, holding Mehrak close to his chest. "Look, you scared her!"
"This is my house," the Deshret-reincarnation—Alhaitham, wasn't it?—said. "And you're talking to a briefcase."
"I told you this is not a briefcase! Her name is—" Kaveh stopped, looking at Mehrak again. "I haven't asked, actually. Do you have a name?"
"Beeeep!" Mehrak! She told Kaveh.
"This is Mehrak!" Kaveh said proudly.
Alhaitham just raised an eyebrow.
"You understand what it says?"
"Well... Sort of! I mean, I don't even know that it's even a language..." Kaveh scratched his head. "It's just I can piece a little from her beeps."
"Well. As long as you're sure that you're not going crazy, talking to a briefcase."
"I'm not!" Kaveh fumed.
"And don't forget you still owe me rent. I hope you don't forget."
"Y-You—"
Mehrak looked up. Kaveh looked so upset that his body was shaking. In fact, she remembered how Malikata would pout when Deshret teased her too much, and flowers under her feet—
—would be thornful roses for some time instead of padisarahs.
She once said that those roses and thorns were symbols of love that hurt. The jinns had known about how King Deshret and Nabu Malikata were in love, but for some reason was unable to be together.
Not to mention that until her end Deshret never even once told Malikata that he loved her. Mehrak believed that her Goddess died while suffering from Deshret's love.
And Mehrak wasn't going to let it happen again this time! She wouldn't let Malikata got bullied by Deshret again!
Mehrak flew past Kaveh and onto Alhaitham's face, and tried to scream at Deshret-reincarnation as best as she could.
"Bebeep beep-beep!" Don't bully my Lady! "Beep-beboop beep, bebeep!" If you're going to hurt her again, stay away Deshret!
Alhaitham blinked at her aggression.
"Mehrak, no! It's okay!" Kaveh gently pulled her away from Alhaitham. "I understand, Alhaitham. Just... go for now, okay? Mehrak is upset."
Alhaitham didn't offer any more response and just left, leaving Kaveh and Mehrak alone once again.
"What happened to you?" Kaveh asked.
"Beep..." I'm sorry... Mehrak wilted as Kaveh patted her. Was she wrong about Malikata's and Deshret's reincarnation? Were they not in love this time? Mehrak did remember that Deshret was particularly playful and teasing to both Malikata and R-Ru—Kusanali.
Maybe they're simply just friends now. Her Lady didn't seem like he liked the Deshret-reincarnation very much either. So there's little chance of her Lady getting hurt by him now.
Kaveh smiled when he looked at her again. "But it's so funny when you flew to his face and scolded—
—him! I wonder what you say to Alhaitham, Mehrak? I hope it's nothing too harsh, because..." Kaveh paused to sit down on the bed, "...despite his appearance, he has a good heart. It's just... It's my fault he turned so cold."
Oh.
Never mind. They're so similar it's ridiculous.
After Kaveh went to sleep that night, Mehrak activated and silently, flew out of Kaveh's room.
There, in the living room, sat Alhaitham, currently reading a book. He looked up when he heard a sound.
"Oh," he said. "You're Kaveh's briefcase."
"Beep beep!" My name is Mehrak! She protested, showing angry face.
To Mehrak's surprise, Alhaitham chuckled. "I know. I'm just making sure," he said, putting down his book. "Come here, Mehrak."
She did, and landed on Alhaitham's lap. "Bebeep?" Do you understand me? She asked.
"...somehow, yes," Alhaitham put a hand on Mehrak and stroked her. "I've studied linguistics for years and learnt how to speak many languages. Perhaps that's why I can understand you."
"Beeeep!" Yes you are! Mehrak said. You're Deshret, just like Mister Kaveh's my Lady.
"Who is this 'Lady', exactly?"
Goddess of Flower, Lady Nabu Malikata! Mehrak huffed. She's my only Master, and she's been reincarnated into Mister Kaveh!
"...oh," was Alhaitham's only reply, after a minute of silence. "So that's why..."
"...bebeep?" Mister Alhaitham?
"It's okay, Mehrak," Alhaitham finally said. "Okay, I won't bully your 'Lady' anymore."
"Boop?" Promise?
"Well, as long as he paid his rent," Alhaitham chuckled.
Mehrak was about to reply when she heard Kaveh's voice. "Ah! So this is where you are!" He exclaimed. Mehrak felt herself being picked up. "Alhaitham, how dare you take things off my room now?!"
"I didn't. She flew here by herself."
"Beep!" It's okay, my Lady! Mehrak added.
Kaveh ignored her to glare at Alhaitham. "Here you are calling me crazy, yet you're talking to Mehrak too, aren't you?" He squinted. "You didn't teach her anything suspicious, right?"
"Why would I? And it's a briefcase," Alhaitham picked his book back. "I already had one."
Kaveh looked like he was about to combust into a puff of air, but then decided against it. "Come on, Mehrak, let's go back to bed," he said, and turned back to his room.
Mehrak followed him, but not after she turned back to look at Alhaitham.
He looked like he was back reading his book, but Alhaitham glanced at her for a moment and put a finger on his lips, smiling a little.
Mehrak let out an approving sound and flew to follow Kaveh back to his room.
—end
1. Kaveh doesn't actually understand Mehrak 100%, while Alhaitham does. Since Mehrak's "soul" is in Deshret's robot rn, so some of her jinn "speech" (which Kaveh understands) are hindered
2. Both Kaveh & Alhaitham are unaware of their connection to GoF & Deshret, but they do receive pieces of memories through dreams (since Akasha is removed). However, since only Alhaitham fully understands Mehrak (who's aware of their 'identity')... :3
...and thats for now :) thank you for reading!!

If Kaveh was asked about his life until now, he'd probably say it resembled a bad, cheap tale of romance novel from Inazuma with a haughty, yet hot young CEO of a company for male lead and a poor, yet beautiful and brilliant female lead.
His husband, Alhaitham, just sat in the back with wireless headphone over his ears and a book in his hand, deep in his own world. But his free arm was looped around Kaveh's waist, pulling the blond close to him. Even when Kaveh protested, Alhaitham wouldn't let him go.
A lot of people knew how the CEO and Co-Founder of Neo Sumeru, Inc. Alhaitham proposed and eventually married his partner, Kaveh, but only several who knew how their relationship began.
Kaveh, especially, remembered their first meeting vividly, almost five years ago.
Kaveh stared at the paper in front of him that said, in bolded letters:
Positive, gestation age predicted to be six weeks.
...seriously?
Kaveh didn't know whether to thank or curse Alhaitham's obviously very virile seeds for this.
They hadn't been trying for long, anyway! Come to think of it, didn't they only do it like... three times since both Alhaitham and Kaveh decided to drop off protection to try for a second child?
He sighed, folded the paper back and tucked it inside his pocket.
They had been very busy lately, since Sabzeruz Festival was right around the corner and there're a lot of preparations ongoing. As the Grand Sage, of course Alhaitham had been busier—even if he didn't want to—and was getting home either late or absolutely exhausted every day.
He remembered feeling weak and cold, even when Alhaitham cradled him in his arms. People came and went by while he drifted in and out of consciousness.
All he could think of was Aliyah.
It's been two weeks and every time Kaveh closed his eyes, he saw a little girl, her face hidden in the shadow, crying.
"Mother, father, where are you...? I... I don't want to be alone..."
And every time he reached his hand out, she disappeared like smoke.
He remembered the days when he was just like that little girl, crying in loneliness, without the warmth of parents, and he vowed to himself that it wouldn't happen if he ever had a kid.
And yet he did. He abandoned Aliyah in the desert, her cries still echoed in his ears.

Kaveh was not the same since he returned from the desert.
When Alhaitham went home that night, Kaveh was already home, back facing Alhaitham as he sat on the dining table. His hair was a mess and his shoulders tense; it seemed like he hadn't noticed him.
He approached Kaveh and placed his hand on Kaveh's shoulder, and the other flinched so hard Alhaitham might have thought he had electrocuted the other. When Kaveh turned to face him, Alhaitham was... perplexed.
His Omega looked *terrible*.
He had seen Kaveh at his worst; sleepless nights of drawing, sharp sound of steel rulers meeting whenever Kaveh moved them, or thumps of hammer as Kaveh tried miserably to make the stiff, bent model straight again. Dark circles under his eyes, little creases of exhaustion.

Alhaitham and Kaveh had been married for two years; it's something everyone had known. After all, it's the marriage of two of Sumeru Akademiya's best—the Grand Sage, and the Light of Kshahrewar.
Nobody questioned if they hadn't had any kids—they're both busy people, so perhaps they needed a little more time.
What everyone didn't know was—that Kaveh had actually wanted one badly. Despite how it looked like, he loved Alhaitham, and would like to bear his child.
But he remembered Alhaitham once said that he wasn't suitable for kids, so he never brought the topic up.
They still had sex—it was always enjoyable, a way to join their bodies and hearts—secured with a piece of condom and Kaveh's birth control pills, just to be safe.
