#Cardiff woke up to the anticipated snow covering this morning, which meant that there were some very slight changes to normal service.
🚦Priority travel routes were gritted overnight last night, and most roads ran well throughout the day, with traffic reported to be lighter than usual.
There were some issues this morning in north Cardiff, on Thornhill Road, north of the junction with Capel Gwillym Road, and on Rhiwbina Hill.
🚌 Cardiff Bus ran a full service, with some very minor changes in some residential areas, on higher ground.
🏫 Following school-by-school risk assessments, the vast majority of schools were open today, two were closed.
♻️ All waste and recycling collections ran to schedule today, apart from two rounds that collect from communal flats which will be rescheduled for tomorrow.
👀 Looking ahead, the @metoffice Yellow Warning of snow and ice remains in place for an area which includes #Cardiff, but this is now ending slightly earlier tomorrow morning – 7am instead of the originally published 9am.
@metoffice Cardiff is expected to see a combination of rain, sleet and snow this evening and overnight, but any snow is not expected to settle in most parts of the city, or to quickly melt away where it does.
@metoffice That prediction is based on the temperature forecast to stay just above freezing at the lowest point overnight for a lot of the city, but this is being monitored closely by our Highways Teams.
@metoffice The priority routes in high-level areas of the city will be gritted again tonight, with priority routes on lower ground continuing to be monitored, and treated if the temperature falls below those currently forecast.
@metoffice ⚠️ Please remember to take extra care, particularly on untreated roads and pavements. Some areas across the wider region may experience larger quantities of snow than here, which may disrupt travel into Cardiff for a time.
@metoffice For further details on the Yellow Warning currently in place, visit the Met Office UK Weather Warnings page here: orlo.uk/od4uU
@metoffice Should there be any disruption to services again tomorrow, we will issue another update in the morning.

This afternoon’s meeting of #CdfCouncil will begin at 4.30pm and will cover the 2023/24 budget proposals
If accepted by Full Council this evening, then a range of proposals, including Council Tax rates, will be agreed by #CdfCouncil. We put together a twitter thread explaining the key points of the Budget proposals for 2023/24. You can view it here 👉 orlo.uk/sl7aR
And there is a press release explaining the #CdfCouncil Budget proposals available here 👉 orlo.uk/wsUN2
You’ve probably noticed that it’s currently snowing in #Cardiff so we wanted to give you a quick update on the current state of play across the city.
Our schools have been risk assessed on a case-by-case basis and the vast majority are open as planned.
Four schools are impacted. They are:
•The Court School – closed.
•Pentyrch Primary School – closed.
•Cardiff West Community High School – opening at 9:45.
•Cantonian High School – KS3 class closed – 6 learners impacted.
Over the summer more than 1200 residents from communities across Cardiff took part in our online survey, sharing their views on our draft vision for a replacement Local Development Plan (LDP) for Cardiff.
Maybe that doesn’t sound much, but for a consultation on planning strategy, which let’s be honest isn’t a subject that gets everybody’s pulse racing, it’s actually a pretty good figure.
30% of responses, from people who shared their postcodes with us, came from areas of Cardiff with the highest levels of deprivation, helping us get a better spread of views.
You’ve might have heard about the new Indoor Arena proposed for Atlantic Wharf, but you definitely won’t have seen this brand new image of the 15,000 capacity live entertainment venue.
Looks pretty good, we think. But so does this one…
🏙️ We need to talk about planning, because let’s face it, whether it’s a proposal to build a high-rise around the corner, the struggle to find an affordable place to live, or something as simple as building an extension to your kitchen, it affects all of us.
So how does planning in #Cardiff work? Truth is, it’s complicated. Social media isn’t always the best place for complicated (and let’s be honest, sometimes controversial) issues, but it’s important, so we’re going to give it a try in this THREAD.
It does get exciting we promise (later we'll tell you about your chance to help shape Cardiff's future).
