IAF requires min 42 Squadrons.
2002 : less than 30 squadrons capable. Decision to reinforce IAF with modern jets taken. Shortlisting of suitable machines begins.
2003 : Process of technical specs, weapon systems undertaken. MMRCA decision taken
2004: Daasault Rafale, Saab Gripen & Eurofighter Typhoon shortlisted as possible suppliers.
2006: Rafale becomes the first choice. In the meantime our capable Squadrons drops to 26.
Till 2013 negotiations take place. Then A K Anthony, Defense minister, says we don't have money
to buy 126 Rafale. By this time Pakistan Air force had big advantage over IAF with their 85 F 16. Air superiority would belong to them in the event of a war. Morale of IAF takes a hit.
2014 : Modi decides to buy 2 squadrons(36 jets) of Rafale, fully loaded as per requirement of IAF in fly away condition from Dassault. Simultaneously, he decides to buy the S 400 missile defense system from Russia to effectively neutralize Pakistanis air power
While reinforcing our squadrons. Cost of 36 Rafale 58000 cr. Cost of multiple S 400 system 30000 cr.
By buying Russian oil, much against the wishes of the west, we have already saved 30000 cr. S400 cost recovered in a very short time.
Now, we are refining Russian oil and selling to Europe. Nobody ever thought that India would be an oil exporter. But here we are. And inspite of so much spending, our foreign reserves are only increasing. It's this kind of governance that is rattling
The 'highly educated' lutyens mafia. Whether it is RR Rajan, Amartya Sen, Chidambaram or any of these pricks. @RahulGandhi cannot even be mentioned in such a discussion. The entire opposition is running scared by these mammoth achievements. It is challenging their very existence
So, how did Modi do it? He is intelligent, no doubt. But in my opinion, his love for his country is so high that he is able to take the best decisions each time, every time. I salute @narendramodi 🙏
