🧵 Snow Update

#Cardiff woke up to the anticipated snow covering this morning, which meant that there were some very slight changes to normal service. Roath Park Lake in the snow.
🚦Priority travel routes were gritted overnight last night, and most roads ran well throughout the day, with traffic reported to be lighter than usual.
There were some issues this morning in north Cardiff, on Thornhill Road, north of the junction with Capel Gwillym Road, and on Rhiwbina Hill.

Over the summer more than 1200 residents from communities across Cardiff took part in our online survey, sharing their views on our draft vision for a replacement Local Development Plan (LDP) for Cardiff.
Maybe that doesn’t sound much, but for a consultation on planning strategy, which let’s be honest isn’t a subject that gets everybody’s pulse racing, it’s actually a pretty good figure.
30% of responses, from people who shared their postcodes with us, came from areas of Cardiff with the highest levels of deprivation, helping us get a better spread of views.

What does the review of our Local Development Plan hope to achieve?
More homes, jobs, and infrastructure to support growth and meet future needs.

More resilience; less carbon.

Easier travel; a healthier environment; reduced inequality; enhanced wellbeing.
A vibrant city centre post-pandemic; sustainable; high quality design; and well-protected blue, green, cultural and historical assets.

🏙️ We need to talk about planning, because let’s face it, whether it’s a proposal to build a high-rise around the corner, the struggle to find an affordable place to live, or something as simple as building an extension to your kitchen, it affects all of us.
So how does planning in #Cardiff work? Truth is, it’s complicated. Social media isn’t always the best place for complicated (and let’s be honest, sometimes controversial) issues, but it’s important, so we’re going to give it a try in this THREAD.
It does get exciting we promise (later we'll tell you about your chance to help shape Cardiff's future).

But if you want to duck out now, we won’t take offence and you can also find a lot of this information here: cardiffnewsroom.co.uk/releases/c25/2…

The rest of you, take a deep breath.
