Listening to Agarkar, Gavaskar, Manjrekar together on Hindi commentary, it is not at all difficult to guess that Manjrekar is the only one married to a Marathi woman. 😂😂

Shuddha Marathi mein Hindi he speaks that Sunny or Ajit could never get away with. 🤣🤣

#INDvAUS
I fully support Manjrekar Hindi btw.

We Marathi people are 100 million strong with 500+ years of Hindi/Urdu in our history.

No one can tell us our Hindi is any less authentic than bisht Hindi. 💪
And yeah, in Marathi Hindi, we say tu instead of tum, if you're one of the aap-hum people who choose that as your hill to die on.
I honestly enjoy Manjrekar's Hindi commentary more than his English commentary.
Last bit is unnecessarily harsh!

Manjrekar was a very good batter!

I'm old enough to remember 1989. He scored centuries in WI & Pak vs Marshall, Ambrose, Walsh, Bishop, Imran, Akram, Wawar, Qadir.

Some respect please.

Sanjay Manjrekar scored over 500 runs in 4 test matches in Pakistan against Imran, Wasim, Waqar, Qadir at their best.

Probably the most underrated test series batting performance of all time.
One of the best cricket books you'll ever read. Very honest. And he wrote it himself. He was a good writer even as a player.

I really don't get the Sanju manju hate on Twitter.

I do find his English commentary a tad prolix.

But he's always been a very fair and insightful thinker, writer, player. Even in the Jadeja episode, he did or said nothing wrong. In fact he took the high road.
And just generally, Sanjay has always struck me as a nice, thoughtful, articulate, and kind cricket commentator. He's never unnecessarily harsh or combative. Nor is he into random stunts.

And he sings and writes very well!
Sunny does not look 73 years old! Dude has aged so well! Image
The ubiquity of Sunil Gavaskar has ironically led to us not fully appreciating the ubiquity of Sunil Gavaskar. We will miss him so intensely when he's gone! For 52 years now, he's been a permanent fixture in Indian cricket in one role or another. And is an automatic GOAT player.
There is no India All Time XI that doesn't start with the name Sunil Gavaskar.
In Jamaica, Antigua & of course Trinidad, I met so many people talking in reverential tones about Sunny. The mutual admiration society of Gavaskar & the West Indies is so sweet and wholesome. People talk fondly of when they met him in some hotel or restaurant.

@rohangava9
This chatty uncle in Trinidad reminiscing about the golden years of West indies cricket said "our boys rolled everyone over. But not the little master.i know you now call Sachin the little master. But for us, Sunny is the little master. Couldn't get him out at all!"
Another uncle said "Brian is our boy but Sunny is also our boy".

The Sunny-Trinidad love story is especially sweet. For many Indian origin Trini folks struggling to define their identity in the 70s, the little master was extra special. He just took it all. It was not easy.
Oooh I so long to return to the Caribbean and talk cricket with uncles who are always excessively generous with the beer in their cooler.

Watching cricket in the Caribbean is one of my favorite things ever.

RRR ending US awards season with 3 historic win reminds me, the Indian media and public are 2 decades overdue on apologies to Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, Diana Hayden, Yukta Mookhey etc.

Might seem like a random tangent but hear me out.
When these young women won international pageants, fresh out of their teens, the dominant narrative was "oh they are winning cos MNCs want to sell products to India".

Which was both accurate and unfair. Unfair to the women. They worked hard and they worked smart for the wins.
It is very accurate that beauty pageants, just like award functions, are fundamentally Marketing vehicles.

But to suggest that it means the long stretch of period in late 90s early 00s when a lot of Indian women won these titles, was just because of marketing reasons, is wrong.

Even the speech is so perfect. Knowing exactly what will appeal to the academy audience.

RRR success has been a master class in Marketing. Specifically, segmentation and targeting. And campaigning professionally.
Long time followers will remember that as far back as December, just on the basis of which white neighbors and colleagues kept asking me about RRR, I was like, this is the best campaign by any Indian movie yet. And it will win globes song, globe foreign film, Oscar song for sure.
Found it.

This was my post after Susan asked me about it again and again.

Susan is a 75 year old lifelong New Yorker who actively watches foreign film. And likes many Indian films. Of a certain type.

This at the end of the day is the Bezos business "genius". Very legit too.

Realizing that in a service economy becoming even more service based, you win by giving customers the best, even over generous service. And make money from your resulting brand in other ways.
From a Marketing perspective, Amazon is where it is because Bezos might have pissed off a lot of suppliers and overworked workers and partners and investors but Amazon customers are consistently satisfied on aggregate. Cos their customer service really is ridiculously nice.
Precisely! No one "loves" Amazon the brand like many people love, with positive feels, Apple or Nike or Southwest or Ferrari.

But everyone knows Amazon will
a. Deliver stuff fastest& cheapest
b. Will take care of any wrong orders or defects very easily

I get the Will Smith scorching. He hit him.

What did Jada do? 🤷🏽

From where I stand, it seems Jada's crimes against Chris Rock:
- sleeping with men other than Chris Rock
- suggesting an Oscar boycott years ago
- getting alopecia
- not loving a joke on her alopecia
I haven't seen this new Netflix special cos I don't find anything comedic in personal resentment bits. Why I don't watch Chappelle in recent years either.

But I saw a clip of the bit where he scorches the Smiths. And kept thinking, dude what did Jada ever do to you?
That Oscar boycott years ago, is he going around bashing Spike Lee for it too? I don't even get the logic of the bits bashing Jada for an Oscar boycott many people suggested and participated in. Unless she pulled a gun on Chris personally and tried to coerce him to boycott.

There you go. This was expected.

Walgreens is going to find out the market power of "wokes".

Short Walgreens. Image
This is at a store where we spend a couple of thousand dollars a year. It was, until last week, our go to pharmacy for prescriptions too.

Not anymore. And there will be many like us. Which WILL hit bottomline. This decision is so getting reversed! Image

Was telling my students just 2 days ago in our pre-Oscars class how people don't realize what a massive amount of revenue for Disney comes from theme parks. A quarter of their revenue. In comparison, for Comcast, it's less than 10%.
Oh that is THE main point I make. unlike Hershey Park or Legoland or 6 Flags, Disney world is ridiculously expensive, remote, swampy, with nothing else much (other than Universal properties).

What are people paying this much for?

What they are paying for is the brand value and loyalty for Disney built for decades since you were born. The potential customer for Disney World is literally every single family in the world.

It is a singularly valuable brand relationship that starts when you're a toddler.
