1/ This play here is one of the best launches you can use, when you have a 10 who is a great decision maker and can make any pass. There’s a few moving parts which are all integral to its success…
2/ 12 does a great job, if we are looking for the optimal outcome he could have been a touch squarer from when he takes off. But his foot speed, ability to carry, play short & play at the line create the space… (12 run inside sextons shoulder and 13 inside Aki to sit them down)
3/ Once the 12 has done his job with 13 running a viable line (which jones does and scores earlier in the game) now 10 needs to get to ringrose and start squaring up which Finn does well. The key part is now where 11 and 15 start and finish…
4/ This is the crescendo. When 10 is locked and loaded, Duhan needs to be 2 metres wider, turning the corner as he is, Hoggy a metre inside the 22. Then Finn just has to watch Lowe and what he does, as soon as he turns in as he did, Finn would let the ball fly to Hoggy. Try time
5/ It’s not how hard and fast you run on plays, sheer effort can make up for a lot. But if you have correct start and finish positions, timing and tempo. Then it comes down to decision making. Doesn’t matter at what level you do this, the defenders are just pawns in the game…
If everyone is in the right spot at the right time then it’s just about ball movement and decision making. Same as it is in basketball or football.
Ps. Happy to answer any questions this morning on the play or anything around it
