Here's what you need to know.👇

1/ According to Global Port Tracker, West Coast ports ended 2022 with an overall 7.5% decrease in loaded imports and an 8.6% decrease in loaded exports. The top five West Coast ports reversed their market share decline versus top East and Gulf Coast ports

2/  East and Gulf Coast ports saw a record-setting year in 2022, even with volume declines in the second half.

3/ Hackett Associates forecasts imports to continue to decrease in the first half of 2023 before a rebound begins in the second half of the year, although volumes are anticipated to decrease from the level seen in 2022.

4/ Top 10 Busiest Ports of 2022

1) Los Angeles, CA - With 4,910,466 TEUs in 2022, Los Angeles remains the busiest port in the US, despite a 10.90% decrease from 2021. Its value of imports decreased by 3.40% to $296,270,624,861.

5/   2) New York-New Jersey - The Port of New York and New Jersey is the second-busiest port in the US with 4,789,976 TEUs in 2022, a 4.02% increase from 2021. Its value of imports increased by 40.05% to $494,155,959,932.

6/  3) Long Beach, CA - Long Beach is the third-busiest port in the US, with 4,253,053 TEUs in 2022, a 6.92% decrease from 2021. Its value of imports increased by 28.12% to $282,589,672,128.

7/  4) Savannah, GA - Savannah is the fourth-busiest port in the US, with 2,862,221 TEUs in 2022, a 2.20% increase from 2021. Its value of imports increased by 2.45% to $186,765,268,929.

8/ 5) Houston, TX - Houston is the fifth-busiest port in the US, with 1,896,711 TEUs in 2022, a 15.51% increase from 2021. Its value of imports increased by 39.64% to $259,125,939,979.

9/ 6) Norfolk, VA - Norfolk is the sixth-busiest port in the US, with 1,651,262 TEUs in 2022, a 2.68% increase from 2021. Its value of imports decreased by 14.00% to $113,779,780,914.

10/ 7) Charleston, SC - Charleston is the seventh-busiest port in the US, with 1,378,008 TEUs in 2022, a 6.53% increase from 2021. Its value of imports decreased by 3.26% to $189,152,663,565.

11/ 8) Oakland, CA - Oakland is the eighth-busiest port in the US, with 970,766 TEUs in 2022, a 6.30% decrease from 2021. Its value of imports increased by 13.96% to $57,367,087,944.

12/ 9) Seattle, WA - Seattle is the ninth-busiest port in the US, with 635,061 TEUs in 2022, an 11.01% decrease from 2021. Its value of imports decreased by 12.55% to $40,641,521,238.

13/ 10) Tacoma, WA - Tacoma is the tenth-busiest port in the US, with 609,446 TEUs in 2022, a 20.01% decrease from 2021. Its value of imports decreased by 11.86% to $45,505,717,863.
