Creating a banking system where all uninsured deposits become insured through government fiat also poses systemic risks.
Many people smarter than me were worried about a bank run. That's certainly a risk worth preventing. But I don't know why preventing that risk required an SVB bailout.
Yes, some SVB depositors did nothing wrong. (Full disclosure, some businesses I invested in had deposits in SVB, so this is a statement against interest.) But many banked with SVB because of cheap venture debt, or other services subsidized by SVB's risky business model.
The idea this won't be borne by taxpayers is also a joke. The inflated fees at every regional bank will be paid by taxpaying small banks and their taxpaying consumers. Those inflated fees are not incidental: they're what's paying for the expanded FDIC insurance.
Finally, how is everyone letting the regulators off the hook? Maybe if the regulators focused on systemic risk instead of diversity, climate, and gender identity, this would have never happened. Just check out this document. There are many more like it.
None of these would improve the gun violence problem in this country. All of them satisfy the urge to "do something" without actually doing anything useful, at great cost to the rights of people who follow the law. Let's take just one example, "red flag" laws.
So all of us agree that we don't want insane people to go and buy a gun and kill people. The question is how to actually accomplish that goal. Importantly, it's already a violation of federal law to sell a gun to a crazy person. So what do red flag laws do?
They allow the government to eliminate peoples' rights without any due process. Say your neighbor calls the police and says you're a bad guy who's about to commit a crime? Or maybe your ex complains about you after an argument? Now the cops can show up and remove your firearms.
Are these people unaware of who our leaders are? Do we want General Mark Milley to lecture the Russians about “white rage” after they blow up one of our planes? Do we trust Biden and Kamala to lead our nation in a war with a major power?
The answer is “of course not.” And this entire episode shows how reckless and idiotic our culture has become. The media will focus on Gibbons’s comments about women (yes they were bad) or the fact that he dared to read Charles Murray and talk about it.
McCaffery has spent decades (so has Boot) lining his pockets by encouraging disastrous wars that have nothing to do with our national interest. It's time to start putting our own people first, fix our broken border, and ignore the people who've been wrong about everything.
Here's a NY Times story about some of McCaffery's shameless business dealings, all done in the name of "national security"--all with the effect of dead American patriots and rich Washington military "leaders."
I'm glad to have Boot, Kristol, and the full gaggle of idiots as enemies. I welcome their scorn. When elected, we're going to look into the financial relationships that reward people for ignoring real problems (like the border and the drug crisis) while focusing on fake ones.
I somehow missed this segment on AirBnB banning Michelle Malkin. The fundamental question for our party is whether we’ll fight to ensure our own voters are able to participate in modern life. No more slogans. It’s time to end corporate tyranny.
Aside from the basic principle at stake, this is just a bizarre case. They actually told her husband he’s banned too because she might travel with him? This is just insane.
And to the liberal hall monitors who will inevitably complain about how Malkin did this or that: get a life. I don’t care.
There are dozens of people who protested on J6 who haven’t even been charged with a crime yet are being mistreated in DC prisons. A friend suggested the below link if you’re able to support them. PatriotFreedomProject.com
*Even if* the very worst of the Democrats’ claims about J6 are true (they’re not), it is an insult to all of us that so many people are rotting in prison without being offered a speedy trial. These people are political prisoners, and their captivity is an assault on democracy.
If you can’t give, maybe consider writing a letter or offering words of encouragement. Many of these prisoners are veterans who served their country honorably and are accused of nothing. They are our people. Help them if you can.
I took a brief break to watch this Rittenhouse testimony, and it fills me with indescribable rage.
I am not a criminal lawyer. I am sure people are right that it's risky for him to testify. But our leaders abandoned this kid's community to lawless thug rioters, and he did something about it, and now a lawless thug prosecutor is trying to destroy his life.
I just watched a boy recount an act of offensive violence committed against him, and break down in tears. Everyone, from the "journalists" who condoned this violence to the president of the United States who called this kid a white supremacist, is culpable for this.
