We bravely went on strike on Jan 31st and spent the next 42 days on strike. Administration cut our healthcare without notification, rescinded our tuition remission, threatened our visa status, and yet, the strike grew every day.

Hundreds of strikers courageously sent emails to their departments and administration notifying them of their decision to strike. We refused to be discouraged or intimidated, and we committed to staying on strike until we got a fair contract.

We spent months building relationships with political allies across the state to ensure that Temple had nowhere to hide. We even took a bus with 55+ strikers to Harrisburg to meet with our allies and spread the word about our fight.

We worked closely with our parent unions @AFTunion@AFTPA & @PhillyAFLCIO to build solidarity with locals across Philly, the region, and the country, including our allies in @623Local who ensured their members would not cross our picket lines.

The students at @TempleUniv have been uncompromising in their support of our strike. They know that our working conditions are their learning conditions, and they showed up to prove it time and time again! Shout out to @TempleUSC@TUUWOC for their unwavering solidarity.
Despite unprecedented retaliation and intimidation, not to mention the cowardice and cruelty of @TempleUniv admin, we won transformative changes to our CBA that allow us to keep building and organizing in the years ahead.
.@TempleUniv retaliated in heinous ways & found out the hard way that union-busting won’t work when workers stand together. No employer should cut strikers’ healthcare. No university should use tuition to threaten workers. No one should threaten immigration status.

In sum, and to borrow a chant from our friends @UNITEHEREPhilly, we told the whole damn world that @TempleUniv is TUGSA territory, and we’re here to stay.
Today, TUGSA members finished voting on the Tentative Agreement reached with @TempleUniv on Friday. Membership voted over 92% to REJECT the agreement with over 83% of the membership voting. As a result, the strike will continue. We are ready to bargain tomorrow.
A 🧵 (1/8)
The terms of the Tentative Agreement provide for minimal raises, increasing the average TA/RA’s pay to around $21,500. By the end of the contract, in 2026, the average TA/RA will be making just over $23,600. (2/8)
On dependent care, the Tentative Agreement with @TempleUniv offered no monetary support. Temple says they will look into “more affordable plans” for dependents, but without any guarantees on when/how/or what this would entail. (3/8)
