In 2019 John Mearsheimer laid out an argument that perfectly explains why Australia is preparing to go to war with China, its primary trading partner, against its own security and economic interests: Australia is more afraid of the US than it is of China.
Australian war propagandists always talk about what *China* might do to us if we don't play along with the Washington's military agendas against Beijing, but they never talk about what *the US* would do to us if we don't. THAT'S the question that matters.
Australia isn't preparing for war with China to protect itself from China. Australia is preparing to go to war with China to protect itself from the US.
They think that because Australians are brainwashed by propaganda. In reality we're trapped between a rock and a Pentagon, and both the threat of war with China and the threat of US retribution have been engineered solely by the US.
On War With China, Australia Is Caught Between A Rock And A Pentagon

"They don't want us thinking too hard about the fact that we are being coerced by the world's most powerful government into preparing to fight a war of unfathomable horror under the tacit threat of inflicting even worse horrors upon us if we don't." soundcloud.com/going_rogue/on…
"So if you're confused as to why Australia is preparing to fight an unwinnable war against its primary trading partner, in direct contradiction to its own security and economic interests, that's why. It's because Australia is ultimately more afraid of the US than it is of China."
The Drums Of War With China Are Beating Much Louder Now
Comments from Washington and Beijing have suddenly become much more pointed and aggressive in recent days, with talk about hot war being often discussed as not just a possibility but a probability. caitlinjohnstone.substack.com/p/the-drums-of…

Imperial Narrative Managers Always Try To Make Peace Seem Unnatural
"Do you see what they’re doing there? These professional China hawks are explicitly trying to frame peace as a strange 'aberration', and war as the status quo norm." caitlinjohnstone.com/2023/03/12/imp…
One of the most freakish and depraved things happening in our society is the way war machine-funded think tanks shape public opinion through the mass media and are cited as experts in the formation of government policy, without that massive conflict of interest being disclosed.
If you killed millions of people and sold their skins for a fortune, people would call you a monster. Kill the same number of people for the same amount of money but do it by lobbying for war and selling the weapons, and people will call you a job creator.
We've been seeing this all week in my own country, where the mass media have been saturated with reports about a bullshit "panel" of five "experts" who say we need to prepare for war with China. They're literally just war machine-funded think tankers.
