River Action has issued a legal claim in the High Court against the @EnvAgency for failing to apply the Farming Rules for Water on the #RiverWye 👉 bit.ly/3TcTiXw 🧵
We claim that the @EnvAgency is complicit in allowing destructive levels of nutrients to leach into the River Wye, which is causing the widespread ecological collapse of one of the UK’s most iconic rivers. 🧵
This is “a sickening tragedy in that this could have been seriously mitigated had the EA enforced existing environmental regulations” @watsonchas. #rescuebritainsrivers
🧵River Action is deeply concerned by a series of recent announcements from Government which have serious implications for our rivers.
Environmentalists have warned these represent a 'deregulatory free-for-all' and a 'full-on attack on the laws that protect nature'...👇
📜Last Thursday the Gov introduced a new Bill to get rid of retained EU law by 2023. This could result in key protections for our habitats and species being scrapped without sufficient public or parliamentary scrutiny.
⚠️In Friday’s mini-budget the Chancellor highlighted his intention of ‘minimising the burden of environmental assessment’.
He also announced new ‘investment zones’ where planning rules and other environmental protections would be relaxed.
