At first, the deliveries were sort of delightful.

There were chicken sandwiches, milkshakes, pastries, lattes and more.

Then the items started arriving multiple times a day, at all hours, delivered by Uber Eats.

@DanielNMiller reports on the mystery: latimes.com/business/story…
Since late February, a stretch of Range View Avenue in Highland Park has been inundated with unwanted deliveries from Uber Eats.

After more than two weeks of the deliveries, it has become, for at least some, a nuisance. latimes.com/business/story…
The items, residents said, have mostly come from McDonald’s and Starbucks.

“It is kind of remarkable what they are able to do with a pancake sandwich," one resident said. latimes.com/business/story…

For @U2’s Vegas shows, Bram van den Berg will play drums instead of Larry Mullen Jr., who recently called the band a dictatorship in an interview.

Is Larry quiet quitting U2?

Bono: “We have all quiet quit U2 over the years.” lat.ms/3JgFjvv
“After the article appeared, Larry texted me and said, ‘You probably won’t be asking me to do many interviews after this,’” Bono says with a laugh. “He has a funny side, despite being caricatured as a surly fella.” lat.ms/3JgFjvv
“In the interview, he said the band had turned into a dictatorship, to which Edge replied, ‘There are four dictators in U2,’” says Bono. lat.ms/3JgFjvv

The Senate confirmed former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti as U.S. ambassador to India on Wednesday, ending a nearly two-year fight over his nomination.

Senators voted 52-42 to confirm Garcetti to the post. He lost the votes of three Democrats but convinced seven Republicans to cross the aisle, winning him the job.

latimes.com/politics/story…
Democratic defections had mounted Wednesday morning, with several senators citing lingering questions about whether Garcetti knew or should have known about a former top aide’s alleged sexual harassment of colleagues.

Latinos comprise 40.2% of California’s population.

Yet Latinos are the most underrepresented group on California boards, making up only 3.7% of the boards of directors in the 505 largest publicly traded companies in the state. latimes.com/business/story…
Corporations on the Nasdaq stock exchange must have at least one woman director or one “underrepresented minority” or LGBTQ+ director by the end of 2023.

But companies can satisfy the rule without appointing Latinos — and many have done so. latimes.com/business/story…
Amazon, Tesla, Intel, Fedex, Albertsons, Kroger, Walgreens Boots Alliance, ExxonMobil, Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase, UPS and Berkshire Hathaway.

These companies – and others – don’t have any Latino representation on their boards. latimes.com/business/story…

The levee breach that left an entire California town underwater this weekend is putting a spotlight on how vital flood control infrastructure is being weakened by age, drought, climate change, rodents and neglect — leaving communities at risk.

On Friday, the Pajaro River burst through the worn-down levee, flooding the entire town of Pajaro and sending its roughly 3,000 residents into what officials are now estimating to be a multi-month-long exile. A second breach was reported on Monday.

latimes.com/california/sto…
For decades, the levee was ignored by the federal government — never rising to the status of a fix-worthy project — despite repeated pleas, breaches, floods and even two deaths.

The deaths from fentanyl and fentanyl-laced methamphetamine occur across the Metro system.

There were nine confirmed overdoses at rail stations last year, all men. But those figures will probably rise as the coroner’s office closes more cases.

There was Oscar Velasquez, 23, who died at the downtown Santa Monica station; Trivonne Vonner, 35, found at the Firestone station; and Ervin Siles Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the Vermont and Santa Monica station in East Hollywood.

“There’s so many sleepers,” the train driver said. “Nobody notices that the guy quit breathing until they’re blue. And then by that time, it’s too late.”
