1/18 @RTFKT's current predicament & PR/reputational problems are well documented.#CloneX holders feel abit lost & unloved. The root of the problem is losing the 3 key 'intangibles' that serve as the fundamental base for pfp projects: vibes, culture, dreams. A🧵 on "fixing" RTFKT:
To recap: in current "pre-mainstream" stage, pfp collections are more about vibes/culture/dreams than actual utility. Since the Nike deal,RTFKT has struggled here with corp takeover ruining the ownership "dreams", customer treatment ruining "vibes" & poor comms ruining "culture".
Having this VCD trio (vibes/culture/dreams) is a necessary foundation. You can temporarily larp as bluechip with only VCD. You can temp larp as bluechip by executing with flawless quality without VCD.But if you want to be a sustainable pfp bluechip, you need both VCD AND quality.
RTFKT has no problems on being able to deliver quality products and experiences: most would agree they're among the best here, especially when they don't rush things out. So we just need to address what is technically the easier domain to fix around the VCD.
VIBES 1:
Before anything else, the obvious: deliver fully on past products currently on the market & throw in an unexpected surprise for the items which were rushed out uncooked (MNLTH). Token? Merch? Whatever you can muster, the gesture at this point is more valuable than u know.
VIBES 2:
It's become a meme at this point that whenever RTFKT has something for sale, the "customer" insult gets thrown out. To combat this, as previously mentioned, turn collabs into a fun event for Clones that's rewarding, inclusive & FUN. Integrate this at every opportunity.
VIBES 3:
Don't use stuff like coupons, tiny raffle odd boosts, or other cheap tactics. If you must, separate a small qty for Clones only & distribute with minimum effort/pain. This is about respect, treat Clones like you would treat a ultra high net-worth VIP customer/partner.
VIBES 4:
If unable to commit to a roadmap, communicate something else on the regular to maintain good vibes & positive energy. The list of possible weekly segments you can have to slowly progress the lore or reveal exciting peeks / retrospective deeper looks is massive.
CULTURE 1:
RTFKT's ideal "voice" is echoing its 3 founders' 2052 vision. That vision is one of the future, where ppl live immersive digital lives backed by digital possessions & experiences - allowing for more minimalism / thoughtfulness IRL. Cultivate this voice, lose the noise.
CULTURE 2:
RTFKT's "goal" is to empower creators & creatives. More resources & tools are needed to truly support this movement. There should be a MISSION to attract/retain talented & fun creatives, everything else will fall into place..including Clones being spoiled with content.
CULTURE 3:
Regardless of the specific brand culture, there are some absolutes that are foundational & necessary: integrity, respect, honesty, owning up to mistakes & being humble. Can't say these basics were always followed, it's time to hold EVERYONE accountable in this regard.
CULTURE 3
When there's a contract bug dont claim it was part of some quest, when you dont meet the roadmap don't lie & say it wasn't 2022 roadmap, when merch comes out not as ppl bought get ahead of it & offer refunds. This is fkin important & acting shadily makes you look small.
CULTURE 4:
Operating in a fast moving collaborative environment, feedback & constructive criticism shouldn't just be tolerated but proactively collected. A community council is a must. Only through this open approach can brand+community reach its natural max potential.
DREAM 1:
We won't ever be equity holders, but there's got to be a desirable ownership we can claim around some part of this giant pie RTFKT is working to dominate. A DAO needs to be formulated so as a community we can come together & work to create/capture value beyond the pfp.
DREAM 2:
Staying mysterious is a part of the RTFKT experience. But without giving a glimpse of the North Star, holders will get lost & lose sight of the destination. The endgame that RTFKT is shooting for should be clarified & what's in it as a CloneX. We need positive dreamers.
DREAM 3:
The image around CloneX is currently as a glorified customer. Need to rebrand to opposite spectrum: CloneX being your VIP pass to 2052. The most loyal Clones with dripped out wearable slots that are max staked should get SPOILED with gifts. Have stake SZN merch with pts.
Ultimately all of the above should result in a very fun, rewarding, & exclusive experience to be a Clone. Walking through a Clones pod should feel like somewhat of a MTV Cribs moment where you're in awe & envious of what they've collected as part of this project over the years.
The endgame as a Clone is still uncertain & maybe will remain that way. But at the very least, chilling in your pimped out Pod that's full of life, vibing with other Clones, knowing everyone has a special VIP all-inclusive seat to 2052..that's something. The journey matters too.
TLDR:
RTFKT needs to restore vibes, culture & dreams.
Vibes restored with turning customer treatment into fun rewarding events.
Culture restored with tight comms that involves a community council.
Dreams restored with a path/plan for Clones to get a slice of the giant pie.
Thanks @fun_nft for inspiring this thread & greater CloneX community for being supportive of these critical but constructive threads over past few months. Prob threaded out at this point - need team to start delivering & give us the TOOLS to build ourselves (🧵⬇️). GL 2 us all!
1/20 There's growing sentiment that @RTFKT's not focusing enough on #CloneX as god-tier of ecosystem. In reality OGs have received every drop, but RTKFT's taking a siloed approach in creating greater aggregated collection value. A🧵 to explain, why it hasn't worked & how it can:
Unlike a lot of other NFTs, RTFKT is a multifaceted brand aiming to provide EVERYTHING you could possibly want in a digital metaverse-ready identity. From gamified shoe leveling to luxury 'phygitals'. But that scope also means not everyone might want to participate in each part.
This is why separating the different parts into ecosystems makes sense and Clones have gotten free access to each new vertical - with option to stick around or cashing-out. Now Clones are demanding that everything be tied to the pfp rather than the initial ecosystem base drops.
