Recently it was reported that the caretaker CM Punjab's tv channel, Channel24, is going to get 45% increase in govt ad rates. That means that the govt will pay Channel24 more money than ever before. But thats not the full story...keep reading.

Previously, Channel24 wasnt even in the top 10, now it will get Fed govt ads at the same rate as the top rated channels. For comparison, here is C24 standing in govt ad spend compared to other channels over the past 10 years: The yellow box the white arrow points towards is C24.

And not just C24, govt has raise Fed govt ad rates across the board by roughly 10%. This is legalized bribe the govt gives to the media. But thats the not story.
Channel 24 owner, in addition to taking this taxpayer money, owns a lot of other businesses. He owns:

- City News Network (City42)
- Image Management Consultant
- Karwan e Faiz e Ali Travel and Tours
- M/S Property 92
- Step-In Air Travel

So he owns multiple businesses in addition to mooching off taxpayer money. Safe to say, he should be very rich. Right? Lets see.

Mohsin Naqvi got registered as a tax payer in 2008. So how much has this rich TV channel owner, an owner of multiple businesses, the current caretaker chief minister of Punjab, and the person in charge of ensuring safe transfer of power in the province, how much has he paid?

Lets see his income tax filing status, that should tell us something. Year by year.
2009:
Mohsin Naqvi owned multiple businesses but did not file any income tax returns in 2009.

2010:
Mohsin Naqvi owned multiple businesses yet did not file personal income tax returns for the year 2010.

2011:
Mohsin Naqvi owned multiple businesses yet did not file personal income tax returns for the year 2011

2012:
Mohsin Naqvi owned multiple businesses yet did not file personal income tax returns for the year 2012

2013:
Mohsin Naqvi owned multiple businesses yet did not file personal income tax returns for the year 2013

2014:
Mohsin Naqvi owned multiple businesses yet did not file personal income tax returns for the year 2014

2015:
Mohsin Naqvi owned multiple businesses yet did not file personal income tax returns for the year 2015

2016:
Mohsin Naqvi owned multiple businesses yet did not file personal income tax returns for the year 2016

2017:
Is this the year Mohsin Naqvi files his personal tax returns?
Nope...

2018:
Maybe it will happen this year?
No.

2019:
At last, this rich businessman is going to file something?
Naaah...

2020:
Is this the year?
No no.

So, From 2009 till 2020, Mr Naqvi is shown as a non-filer according to FBR records.

That is why he has no record in the published Tax Directories of FBR from 2013 to 2018.

In fact, FBR records show that Mr Naqvi remains a non-filer till 19th September 2021.

Finally, Mr Naqvi files his returns on 20th Sep 2021 and becomes and active filer! 🎉👏🎉🎈
i wonder why now? He didnt have to really.

So this rich businessman, owner of multiple tv channels and other businesses, does not file any personal income tax for years and years. And finally files them in Sep 2021 for the first time.
He is now the CM Punjab, he comes on TV almost everyday and tells us whats right.

He is responsible for Pakistan's largest province. He gets taxpayer money from the Federal govt at the best rates now despite his channel ranking much lower than other channels.
Is Mr Mohsin Naqvi a net positive for the country? Does he deserve to be the caretake CM?

That exercise is left to the reader.
