I often like talking with older people since it’s tiring how much of Gen Z social relations are some bizarre power game built off insecurity. The girl who rejects you and is angry you don’t ask her again, buying supreme, not responding to vital texts since they’re “too cool”
In my age group we’ve burned all the social commons like religion, normal families, stable middle class jobs, expectation of sanity and from it people treat all their lives as a status competition, which even if you win makes you miserable
Of the 15 or so social communities I’ve been a part of the best is the Whatifalthist fan base, where people tend to be pretty smart and real. Rural Pennsylvania was also really good. People are very nice, honest and laidback but not dumb either.
The worst was trying to coordinate influencers in LA. God, it was horrible. However, if you can make a core friend group or find one of their churches it’s great. College was also ok. Lots of kids who hadn’t really lived and were super anxious. New York was very materialistic
Actually, the best groups I’ve seen are Appalachian Trail hikers and the archaeology I did in Peru. Both self selected for really nice, down to earth but also smart people since they were willing to reject social climbing for adventure

I think Buddhism is so popular among the Western chattering classes for a couple reasons
The growth of the state and corporate power at the expense of the individual is similar that of the growth of the caste system and the state which made Buddhism in the first place.
The World Wars have traumatized us to war and conflict and Buddhism is the most conflict averse of major world religions. Likewise, Buddhism’s retreat from the world is appealing to a society that is terrified of masculinity and aggression
I think in the future we will be absolutely horrified at the corruption and evil that is going on in places of power now. I think over time we will gradually come to terms with it as more info is released but as of now I believe things are worse than they seem.
If I had to guess where this would be concentrated I would say that the government is probably doing a couple extremely corrupt things behind the scenes and I think big tech has much worse boundaries than we believe, ignoring our privacy, pushing agendas and corruptly lobbying
I’ve been saying for years how the Left is becoming more radicalized and it wouldn’t surprise me if things are worse than people imagine in incubator universities like the Ivies, the Bible Belt Christian Right also seems to be more radical than most people realize
