Trans Activist Violence: Many of you heard the rumour that a woman was hurt at #letwomenspeakmelbourne. I can now reveal some more details. At the moment when the Vic Police were shepherding the Nazis up onto the steps, around 12.20, trans activists broke through 1/
a tight ring of marshalls and listeners and grabbed the mike. In the scuffle to protect women from the trans activists, including one male, a woman listener was knocked to the ground: her head struck the pavement 2/
and she lost consciousness. One woman put her coat under her head and checked she was breathing. A doctor, who was there to hear the speeches, attended. Another woman lifted her and began to carry her - a male ally then took her, and we laid her 3/
on the footpath 100m away, where paramedics and an ambulance attended. She was assessed for concussion at hospital. The woman who was hurt is a remarkable young lesbian. A brave and resilient protester for women’s rights, this was not her first rally. At 12.51 4/
I stood up from my place next to this young woman - still lying white as a ghost on the ground, waiting for the ambulance - to take this photo of the nazis leaving:
Many thanks to the 2 doctors, the unknown male ally, the woman who stayed with her, the paramedics, and all the concerned women who contacted me to ask how she was. No fucking thanks at all to the fucking nazis.
People who think we could have asked the police to remove the nazis are revealing their class position & lack of understanding of how police function, and how women behave. The police are an arm of the state, who 1/
function to ensure the state, for better or worse, has a monopoly on violence. We were absolutely dependent on the cops to protect us from the raging males who were straining at the cordon and the horses, screaming 2/
their threats of violence at us. Middle class people seem to think the cops are like employees or customer service: that those awful women could have just gone full Karen and directed police to remove 3/
