Bat samples were sought methodically throughout SE Asia. Other mammals, including raccoon dogs. would be "opportunistically" sampled from live markets and farms. I read that to mean, when we get the opportunity to sample from markets, we will. HSM would seem a good opportunity. Image
What did they do with them? Some are euthanized, while "Animals that are sourced from markets and that may be potentially consumed, will be manually restrained without anesthesia, if possible, so that they may be returned to the vendor" Image
What does it matter? It almost certainly doesn't. I just thought it was interesting.
