Space needs subcommittee almost ready to begin, delayed getting into the room. Agenda doc to follow along #snsc0320 franklinps.net/sites/g/files/…
Meeting opens with a review of the agenda outline, #snsc0320 survey closed 3/17 at noon, over 110 responses, distribution good among schools; 50% chose option 1, 12% chose #2, 38% chose 3rd option
Timing of the facilities plan is the big unknown from the survey feedback, concern over multiple moves, reducing disruption main reason for option 1; #snsc0320 perception of an unused space at Sullivan doesn't seem to have happened to alleviate Keller needs currently
Details on the specific room/rooms to be used to equitably share the space in the building. #snsc0320 idea on the 5th grade being repositioned, seemed to disappear along the way, depending upon which way to go (by grade) some were viable, some not
Recommendation to go forward needs to have the details, students, rooms by class for the space utilization #snsc0320 so much was outside of the advisory focus that the 'other stuff' which is important was not considered
What is the state of the union? What could we be doing going forward? What would the architect say about the continued utilization of the existing space for today and future needs #snsc0320 Supt to meet with KBA to touch base
Feedback seems to indicate that the student support esp with an IEP would not change, the personnel to deliver such support may change from school to school or year to year and may not have been clear for some parents #snsc0320
Option 1 (effectively doing nothing) on one hand was a surprise to include when for the money paid for the study, we could have saved that and got there. #snsc0320 on the other hand, it is an option to be considered. The information learned along the way changed was key
Analysis is one thing, and it led to learning around some of the options as to which was optimal or not #snsc0320 the DT closure was timing, and the facility analysis would take more time; in hind sight could have been done to resolve the issues remaining
Stokes has questions to be answered before leading to the recommendation #snsc0320 an option would be to work with incoming K students, an option would be to do the facilities plan which will take time, but all at once not staggered
Could be: Option 3 initially, and facility plan starts, if the process will take too long then go option 2, #snsc0320 if no building changes part of master facility. A hybrid approach. Option 2 for 2023 would not work in time
Would have to be really clear about the choices and the decisions required, it could be that parent would 'give up' transportation to make the choice; would need to see if that could work #snsc0320
Need to explore the options and within the populations as enrollment declines, while it declines is there a tipping point to free a room? or does that happen over too long a time to be effective to absorb the elementary? #snsc0320
Plan for school Cmte due Apr 25, for decision may 9, the timeline is too quick for the subcmte, they need to meet again to process the details and reach consensus on a recommendation #snsc0320
Keller playground, parking, and class sizes are part of the details at least one member is looking for to make a decision #snsc0320 one member not sold on the buffer zone, too much of a logistical issue to handle;
Option 2 for implementation in Sept 2024 is something that could be done and ensure planning is continuing to happen, #snsc0320 Supt to talk with KBA, talk with McKibben on update for 2020 census, query to buffer folks to check feasibility, next mtg Mar 27 virtual 5:45
Continue agenda towards the option for a recommendation and then what's needed for the recommendation. Motion to adjourn #snsc0320
