ChatGPT is overrated.

It's filling our lives with boring, generic content.

Here're 9 ways to write stories (better than the robots):

Let me start by saying,

ChatGPT is an amazing tool.

While I haven't dabbled like some, I see its usefulness.

But let's be real, we're already starting to see a bunch of bunk when it comes to content.

I'm writing this to suggest ways to write content that helps you:

• Standout
• Breakthrough
• Find your voice

In a sense – this is how to craft compelling content (that beat the machines).

And we'll start with:

1. Sharing your "micro" stories

Kieran writes one story a day (in tweet form)

He shares:

• The problem
• The solution
• His emotion
• The stakes

All in 280 characters.

Brilliant.

2. Address the elephant in the room

What, in your story, motivates you?

Does it:

• Help you get something off your chest?
• Help reason through unsolved problems you have?
• Persuade others on something you believe is important?

Share the motivation for writing.

3. Weave in a motto

Mottos are the underlying lesson we should extract from a story.

Again, this adds a human element to the content that might be in front of you.

Embed:

• Lessons
• Wisdom
• Takeaways

So your readers walk away with powerful insights.

4. Practice public solitude

Writing a story to yourself is a cheat code.

When you're not worried about:

• Exciting
• Impressing
• Persuading
• Convincing

An audience – your true voice comes out.

Write to yourself from two years ago.

That's a story.

5. Experiment

ChatGPT uses predictive models to form content.

It's tough to conjure originality when it's scanning the most common patterns across the web.

True:

• Content
• Storytelling
• Perspective

Comes from finding your flow and publishing (even if you're scared)

6. Add rhythm to your story

I'm not the first person to write this (and I won't be the last).

But great stories and content have rhythm.

You can pull people in with a long, winding passage that grips and pulls them in.

Then add speed.

7. Offer a counter-narrative

There isn't a better person on Earth at doing this than Justin Welsh.

He's built a 7-figure business around flipping the "script" many of us thought we needed to follow.

Stories and narratives like this are hard to distill into a ChatGPT prompt:

8. Add colorful segues

While I've only spent a few dozen hours on ChatGPT I've noticed one thing in particular...

There are virtually no segues.

Segues are the garlic powder of stories – a dusting here and there goes a long way.

9. Embrace typos and poor grammar

Stay with me here...

But stories worth sharing touch our humanity, right?

Typos & lackluster grammar allow for:

• Emotional responses
• Connection
• Laughter
• Eye rolls
