I REALLY hate to say it, but after watching the OG Trigun, it’s a shame we didn’t see ‘23 Vash snap or know WHY he made the promise to never kill again like the ‘98 Vash did. It’d be understandable, & we’d feel sympathetic even if we don’t agree with his actions. However, +

Because we’re not given the reason (or even a good enough reason in this version: TriStamp) behind his actions, ‘23 Vash’s unyielding faith & devotion to humans feels foolish & confusing when we see what’s happened to him (it’s something I felt before ever watching the OG).

His promise to never kill that means so much to him feels like we missed something (speaking in terms to a new audience). I know we have one episode left, but I feel like we may not get anything from what I just said. I’ll be surprised & happy, but just wanted to give an opinion.

Also I love ‘23 Vash & ‘98 Vash to death— Don’t come yelling at me. 😳 I just feel ‘98 Vash is more grounded in his values while ‘23 Vash’s feels hypocritical & wobbly in his without the context new fans wouldn’t know from the OG.

I guess what I’m trying to say is I wish ‘23 Vash wasn’t so, “No! Humans are good! We just need faith!” despite all that’s happened. I want to see an internal conflict, him second-guessing himself, unsure of himself, an explanation why he never kills, struggling with his beliefs.

I’m cool with ‘23 Vash being in denial about what humans have done, what REM has done. I think that’s great! That’s an interesting take on this version of Vash I’m down to see! However, it doesn’t feel like the anime is treating it as such. It doesn’t feel intentional. +

Knives feels like the viewer who’s trying to talk sense into Vash, & he’s all for mass genocide lmao The plant guy who’s murdered thousands of people feels the most human in the anime.
