The tiktok ban is about money and control.

It is NOT about National Security. 🧵
#RESTRICTAct
This Congressional witch hunt, piloted by Meta, uses scare tactics to enlarge the scope of executive power, which will ultimately be wielded at the hands of the highest bidder.
Tiktok isn’t the only app on the chopping block. This bill will give the executive branch broad power to restrict any foreign-owned internet-based apps and technology platforms.
But what assurances are we given that US born companies like Meta aren’t conspiring with foreign governments like Russia?

Answer? None.

This bill does nothing to address the real threat, but in fact enhances that threat by eliminating competition for apps like Facebook/IG.
Jessica Craven points out that the greatest threat to our democracy is White Nationalism, which currently runs seemingly unchecked on platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
Further, Craven points out the Department of Homeland Security is running a covert operation that even employees think is shady.
Add in Google & Amazon for good measure, Americans are constantly, mostly unknowingly, providing our data in some way to corporations via technology.
Cherry-picking security risks based on which company provides the most/least monetary contribution is as American as apple pie.

But the power this bill exerts over our access to information, the authority it grants to the President & executive branch, is unprecedented.
Imagine this kind of unchecked power in the hands of a loose canon like Donald Trump, or fascism enthusiasts like Ron DeSantis.
Members of Congress supporting the RESTRICT Act should view this accordingly, as a political suicide mission, because they are alienating 150 million already agitated Americans-many of whom are eligible to vote.
Boomers will fall for this kind of fear-mongering, but we won’t.

Imagine sexualizing tampons.

Republicans in Idaho are so steadfastly opposed to paying for tampon dispensers in schools, they are sexualizing tampon usage.

Even more distressing-women were among the chief complainants. The call is coming from within the house. 🧵
The bill did not pass.

I’ll be covering this more in depth. In the meantime you can let @RepHeatherScott know when you started your period and needed these products. She needs an education.
Also contact Rep. Julianne Young, who also spoke against providing feminine hygiene products.

Next up on the docket of Florida fuckery, contact your FL reps to oppose HB 1421.

This bill denies health care coverage to trans youth and adults seeking gender-affirming care-effectively forcing them to detransition.

It is barbaric. It is NOT small government. It is Fascism.
Florida republicans are trying to eradicate entire groups of people. The GOP regime will continue to attack human rights until you are impacted.
This is a systematic approach by the GOP. They are inundating you with a deluge of these kind of bills because they know people are tired, they are disoriented, they are trying to wear you down.

Florida republicans have fast-tracked an open carry bill, HB 543, they will be voting on this today.

HB 543 will allow licensed gun owners to openly display firearms. 🧵
The GOP is strategically bombarding the legislature with countless bills, counting on your disorientation so that they can sneak these measures through.
Remind your 2A touting friends what Jon Stewart said, “inconvenience is not infringement.”
