#TheMasters is one week away, and it is the first major of the year. Why is this notable? It’s one of three majors (U.S. & British Open the other two) in which both LIV Golf and PGA Tour players can compete against each other. 🧵
LIV golfers who are eligible to play in #TheMasters every year as past Masters Champions:
1) Dustin Johnson (2020) 2) Patrick Reed (2018) 3) Sergio Garcia (2017) 4) Bubba Watson (2012) 5) Charl Schwartzel (2011) 6) Phil Mickelson (2010, 2006, 2004)
LIV golfers who are eligible to play in #TheMasters after making the top 50 Official World Golf Ranking the previous calendar year:
1) Abraham Ancer 2) Talor Gooch 3) Jason Kokrak 4) Joaquin Niemann 5) Louis Oosthuizen 6) Mito Pereira 7) Thomas Pieters 8) Harold Varner III
There are many ways to qualify for #TheMasters such as being a U.S. Open or British Open champion in the last five years, which is how Bryson DeChambeau qualified, finishing in the top 12 in the previous year’s Masters, or top 4 in the previous year’s U.S. Open or British Open.
🚨Takeaway🚨
LIV golfers need to do extremely well in the majors going forward (top 12 Masters finish, top Open 4 finish) or the number of LIV golfers will decline at #TheMasters since these are mainly the tournaments they earn OWGR points at or they will fall out of the top 50.
