You can even hack your normal Nintendo DS, be it old, lite or a DSi. Or use an R4 card.
You can also still access Nintendo WFC by changing your DNS settings. Set your primary and secondary DNS to this:
178.62.43.212

Indie studios and community members are actively making ports, tools and even games for the 3DS. We are leaps & bounds ahead of what most people think the 3DS is capable of.
For example, Griffon Legend. An SNES style RPG on 3DS homebrew gamebrew.org/wiki/Griffon_L…
There are sooo many places where both encrypted and de-encrypted .CIA/.3DS/etc. ROMs are archived. Give the community the credit they earned by developing the tools to do this, not someone who spent $23K. we do not need a game archive, we already have the Internet Archive :D
Here are some places where you can get ROMs and learn more about 3DS CFW: hshop.erista.me vimm.net

btw MelonDS is currently testing a netplay feature which will emulate **local multiplayer** features (wireless play). in other words, you'll be able to use Download Play, Pictochat and DQ9's co-op again in an emulator
ok last thing maybe? since I'm being asked. yes, Halo, Half-Life, Portal, etc. really have been ported to the 3DS. there's even a GTA III port that lets you add mods
