This meting is webinar format, chat disabled, they didn't turn on recording (at least it wasn't announced for me to hear/capture with my recording). Can't get their attention to confirm I am recording. #snsc0327
Supt. Giguere did talk with KBA person on recap, and next steps, estimates to take 12 months for a long range facility plan. New/space for schools seems to be required about 2028,202 when enrollment starting turning back up #snsc0327
This would be a long term project especially on state side from statement of interest to state likely up 8 years; would likely require some mods to both Keller/Sullivan and Remington/Jefferson to adjust the middle side to accommodate elementary; as well as to Oak/HM to ...
Accommodate the centralization of middle schoolers into the elementary side #snsc0327 as well as whatever the additional space to either Parmenter or Kennedy for the elementary space requirements
How many would be interested in the buffer zone? That would help determine the level of logistics required. the buffer option per Charles would only be for one year, then the option 2 redistricting would be in effect for the next year. #snsc0327
One member concerned about the town growth and what it may do for the school enrollment, the demographics study took those items into account. The proposed update with 2020 census data should also account for that growth. Station 117 at 1 point was supposed to bring in "tons" ...
And yet didn't as they were luxury apartments, 1 &2 bedroom, not ones to bring in families. Reallocation of FTE to support students happens annually, not something needed to be uniquely planned for. #snsc0327 not likely to expand collaborative space at Keller/Sullivan given ...
the uncertainty of the overall space needs. The largest impact to enrollment (per demographer) is the turnover of single family homes. #snsc0327 option 2 would be fall of 2024 at earliest. Couldn't tackle it any sooner.
The perceived space issue at K/S is likely an issue of perspectives, Supt has heard from all sides. He would not say they are "busting at the seams". There is thoughtful planning for the kids and spaces there. Buffer would be only option of changing pop# at K/S for Sep #snsc0327
Classroom sizes at Keller were higher in 2009, than they are today. Comparison amongst other schools may be raising this. #snsc0327 Supt explains scenarios of planning for classsizes to stay within the range.
If option 3 is for K and DT kids only, then one member can go that way. Consider buffer zone as an early option for redistricting, for the kids. Concern for DT kids: need to be sensitive to it now; (yet 4 now, choice of 5 next, would move next to 6 anyway) with choice #snsc0327
The DT kids numbers wise in this last scenario amount to 39; #snsc0327 buffer option Sep, option 2 in 2024, add * to legacy class till high school and nothing more beyond. "No need to make decision under pressure"
These decisions are not easy, if it were anyone could. It does need to be done, option 3 in 2023, buffer includes K, then redistricting 2024. #snsc0327 nothing else special for DT (1 needs to consider DT families from not having to move again - it will be messy... )
May be forgetting that 5 moves to 6 anyway, and redistricting would move kids from Keller to HM (rather than Sulivan) #snsc0327 that would continue the bus transportation 'mess' as the parents would choose to transmit them on their own. Especially when under redistricting ...
The transportation would be provided automatically #snsc0327 (seems like vote will come out 2-1 rather than 3-0): buffer option 3 plus K, redistricting in 2024; other option would be same but DT kids who moved would get option beyond 2024 (this would drag it on)
Denise, Al aligned on buffer Sep, redistricting in 2024, long term plan; Elise held firm on her considerations. Recommendation 2-1 to be prepared, need to be definitive and not confusing, storymap key, other info from site to support, relating discussion of this mtg. #snsc0327
McKibben update coming, 2 surveys, on to DT to see interest and 2 for K families registered so far, #snsc0327 discussion on timeline fir doc package and review thereof, due the 12th to subcmte, out to the full cmte the 14th before April break, motion to adjourn, passes 3-0

Supt Giguere's report, legislative breakfast recently, redistricting forums held, survey info gathered, subcommittee now working on a recommendation to bring forward to the School Committee #schcom0321 (yes, today is the 21st just caught myself on that!)
Meeting opens with a review of the agenda outline, #snsc0320 survey closed 3/17 at noon, over 110 responses, distribution good among schools; 50% chose option 1, 12% chose #2, 38% chose 3rd option
Timing of the facilities plan is the big unknown from the survey feedback, concern over multiple moves, reducing disruption main reason for option 1; #snsc0320 perception of an unused space at Sullivan doesn't seem to have happened to alleviate Keller needs currently
