🧵 Everything you need to know about the Legends of the Mara (LoTM): A thread summary of the info dropped by @OthersideMeta:
- What Legends of Mara is about
- Why the decoupling is important
- Vessels each Otherdeed Holder gets
- What Mara's can do
- 'Alpha' about Sediment (1/14)
What Legends of Mara is about:
LoTM is a collection-based 2D strategy game. But more importantly, it is the start of the Otherside Lore and awakening of the Otherdeed functionalities. Deed harvesting will kickstart the Otherside economy. (2/14)
Why the decoupling is important (1):
Till this point, Koda's have been traits on an Otherdeed. For the first time, deed holders will be able to extract the Koda to an NFT of its own. This will allow for the trading of Koda's separate to the land they were minted on (3/14)
Why the decoupling is important (2):
Decoupling is the third piece of the obelisk, which gives us an indication that the roadmap is moving forward. But decoupling also mentions artefacts. Will artefact decoupling be at the same time or after LoTM? otherside.xyz/obelisk (4/14)
Vessels each Otherdeed Holder gets:
A vessel will land on every Otherdeed land. The type of vessel will be a random selection from the following three. These vessels will hatch a 'Mara' and have skills based on the type
- Enchanter
- Farmer
- Hunter
(5/14)
Enchanter Vessel: Grants Buffs and Bonuses
Famer Vessel: Harvest fragments from Otherdeeds
Hunter Vessel: Fend off violent threats to Otherdeeds
(6/14)
What Mara's do?
Firstly we need to know the hierarchy of the species. They ascend as follows:
- Mara
- KodaMara
- Koda
- MegaKoda (Ancient?)
(7/14)
Kodas and KodaMara are the primary keepers of Otherside. Mara are beginner apprentices and we will need to feed them fragments so that they can evolve into KodaMara. Did we already collect some of these fragment blobs during the second trip?
How to boost your Mara into a better KodaMara:
The @OthersideMeta LoTM website tells us that "A KodaMara's traits are affected by the fragments it ingested as a Mara"
But only Genesis Kodas and Farmer Mara can attach to an Otherdeed and harvest the Sediment under the land
(19/14)
The @OthersideMeta make it clear which fragments will be more valuable and provide better KodaMara boosting: 1. Biogenic Swamp 2. Chemical Goo 3. Rainbow Atmos 4. Cosmic Dream 5. Infinite Expanse
(10/14)
- Speculation @yugalabs has said that LoTM will be powered by $APE coin, and as we saw with Dookey Dash players were able to purchase power-ups. Will we be able to buy higher-level fragments from players who are harvesting them?
(11/14)
- Speculation
What are the "violent threats to Otherdeeds"? Can players steal fragments from other players? This would make the Hunter Mara a key item for players who choose this approach. This could be the first time @yugalabs attempt a Player vs Player mechanic?
(12/14)
- Speculation
The Enchanter Mara will be undervalued in the short term as players rush to gather sediment fragments. But there's a battle with the huge Leviathon we saw at the end of the Second trip, and a 'Mage' with buffs will be a strong fighter Mara.

In closing
As the Otherside comes to life I'll be writing more threads about the game dynamics and how to maximise your #OtherSide items.

🧵 My first #Otherside experience:
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
This will unpack the second trip and share thoughts about future trips and the multi-year development roadmap.
(1/12)
The Good (1)
The @Improbableio platform once more showed its durability by hosting 7,200+ concurrent users, a decent step up from the 4,500 users joining the first trip.
The team mechanic was brilliant and added real tension and competitive excitement to the game. (2/12)
The Good (2)
For a project that's been in development for under a year, the world looks amazing and has both visual and vertical depth. The power-ups dotted around which gave players increased jump height and speed were fun and made the traversal of the map more playful. (3/12)
