Thread: Pleased to be featured in this terrific column by @joshrogin. Threats @tiktok_us pose are real--privacy, public health & safety, and CCP manipulation of info. Not about racially motivated pushback, Whataboutism, or 150 million potential votes. wapo.st/3LVH4Bb
@tiktok_us and @BytedanceTalk don’t criticize the Chinese government’s abuse of the Uyghurs because they are complicit. ByteDance has a strategic partnership with the Chinese Ministry of Public Security. That is part of their business conduct. This is what they do. n/2
@shouchew equating TikTok’s practices with those of American social media companies doesn’t hold water because U.S. firms don’t work on behalf of a foreign government that has a record of stealing Americans’ data. n/3
People argue that our social media companies do it as well, but that’s for a commercial purpose; TikTok is a spying tool for the Chinese state. END

We respectfully ask the @APStylebook and the worldwide media organization to use the correct spelling "Uyghur" instead of "Uighur" Editors' excuse of following @APStylebook is not plausible. 5/6
