IPL is not just a cricket tournament, it's a money-making machine. IPL 2023 is expected to generate over $1 billion in revenue, making it one of the most lucrative sports tournaments in the world.

Asia’s richest man Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance acquired the digital rights of IPL for ₹23,800 crore ($3.04 billion), which is ₹200 crore more than what Disney-owned Star Sports India paid for the exclusive TV rights.

In recent years, IPL has been a huge success in terms of revenue and viewership. In 2020, the tournament generated a whopping $6.19 billion in brand value, despite being held in the middle of a pandemic.

The most expensive IPL player in the history of the Indian Premier League is Sam Curran, Punjab Kings bought him for INR 18.50 cr in the 2023 auction. The 2nd costliest player is Chris Morris, he was sold to Rajasthan Royals for INR 16.25 cr in 2021.

The IPL has also been a platform for many young Indian players to make their mark in the game. Some of the players who have made a name for themselves in the IPL include Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and Prithvi Shaw.
