I’m on page 11 of 55. This is thing is a huge power grab. They should be embarrassed they are trying for this kind of power and it’s horrifying this might become law.
Definitely a power grab over any entity that has foreign interests attached to it. This would include any internet platform that serves globally if it has at least a million users in the US and if that entity is, in any way, beholden via stock, share or other interest.
This would include the vast majority of internet based services you use. Twitter, Facebook, Apple, Google, etc.
If I’m reading it wrong please let me know.
It also uses the word “Any” entirely too much, ensuring anything is covered under this Act.
They way it defines its targets is so broad it really boils down to anyone, globally.
All they have to do is point to an anon acct and say they think it’s a foreign agent. Any entity would have to turn over all information on that person.
We all saw how good they are at identifying foreign agents the last few years. 🙄
It really seems pretty clear to me this was conceived to collar Twitter post-Musk.
What in the hell have we not seen yet? They’re terrified. @mtaibbi
Also it can be enforced day 1 of signing. It specifies referrals can begin before regulations are enacted.
It stipulates the Administrative Procedure Act does not apply. That act requires any regulation is published to the public for public comment before adoption.
Nope. They can just propose it and adopt it without even telling you what it is.
If the president decides an entity is a great enough risk they can order divestment or “otherwise mitigate risk” of any part of the entity subject to US jurisdiction.
i.e. “Biden has ordered that Twitter….”
This would even affect non-centralized entities like Tor. Any nodes in US jurisdiction would be fair game.
One bizarre add was making sure they covered quantum encryption and communications.
What the fuck?
Synthetic biology…
I mean, they wanted to make sure they had control over literally every fucking thing, present and future.
And finally, actions taken by the president and the secretary, and any findings, shall not be subject to administrative or judicial review in any federal court.
This is a clusterfuck. Pure and simple. Hopefully this gets stomped either before it becomes law or by the Supreme Court.
Since the shooter is dead you won’t have to wait long for a trial to get excerpts of the manifesto the police mentioned. Then, many of your questions will be answered and you can all stop making assumptions about why this happened.
There are things you can glean from what has already been said. There were 2 possible locations. 1 had too much security, so the other was chose. This means it was targeted but prob not personally to an individual.
A manifesto indicates political/ideological.
That’s it.
I’m the end, it doesn’t matter. This was a sick individual. Mentally unwell. I see them on social media all the time. You simply don’t shoot up a school or a Walmart or a church or anything else if you’re, in any way, stable bThey need help.
