(rebirth)│#plantcest│angst│post-canon-ish│no fix it
inspired by that tweet where nai turns into a baby after he's burned
His first memories are black. Black and blue. Black, the sky high above him, engulfing. Black, the ground around him, scorched dead.
Black the old, tattered fabric beneath him, separating him from the warmth below. Then blue. Oh so bright, blue eyes, brimming with tears staring at him with dread and awe.
From the deepest part of his tiny being, a feeling is rushing to the surface, to reach out,
to comfort this person. It's an instinct, as easy as breathing, burned into his very soul. He has no words yet, no understanding, barely any sense of self, but this. The owner of those bright blue eyes is his universe.
He learns quickly, he takes it all in, hanging every word of his brother. His name (Nai), his favourite person (Vash Vash Vash), the planet. The plants. The humans. Also the secrets. Despite all Vash's gushing, he keeps things to himself. If Nai wouldn't be so perceptive -
especially when it comes to Vash - he migh've missed how his brother's eyes turn pained for a flash of a second, or how his smile just doesn't quite reach his eyes, or when he's exited ramble gets a little too quick to jump to a different topic.
Nai doesn't mind. (A lie. He wishes to know, to be able to take the sadness out of Vash's gaze, when he thinks he's stealing -not to subtle- glances at Nai) But he bears it. His Vash is with him, showing him all the things precious to him, and that is what matters.
At least it should. But an ugly feeling inside him persist. His brother's love is an all encompassing warmth, spreading over the horizon, enveloping all it's beings. He shares and hopes. The way he gently murmurs to their tomas, gently placing worms back to the ground,
and his almost desperate attempt to blend in with humanity. Nai doesn't understand. He knows they're not human. They're plants. Working together to keep on living. At least that's what Vash says, even tho they've chased out of town after town.
Even when the woman with the short hair looks at Nai like he is some sort of monster, and the weird man with the even werider gun yells at Vash pointing at him. His brother just tells him it's alright. You just have to believe.
Nai wants to. He truly, truly wishes to.
Yet, he cannot. His horizon is filled with Vash only. But if it makes Vash happy, he can pretend to care. Even, when he doesn't.

i love the #plantcest actor au
user millionsofknaives is a fandom famous author with heart wrenching analysis and quick temper towards anyone who just utters a bad word towards vash. he's not just a self proclaimed no1 vash stan, it's an accepted fact in the fandom
what people don't know, that it's nai's secret fan account
his characterization is so accurate and his demeanor is so similar that the fandom often jokes about what if he's THE nai. but surely he's just a dedicated fan, how would a world famous actor have time to write 40k body worship (and why)
