area of Bijbehara, South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The local inhabitants and the victims believe that this personal feud over a land dispute among families may be the cause of the incident.

According to one victim, Iqbal Bhat, "Few persons of the village had already threatened us about chopping down trees, we have informed the local police about the suspected persons who are believed to be involved in this shocking incident."

However, another victim, M Ramzan Bhat from Kandipora Bijbehara, submitted an application at police station Bijbehara, claiming that hundreds of fruit-bearing apple trees has been chopped down by a few suspected persons in his orchards.

Immediately after this incident, an FIR vide number 72/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered in the local Police Station, and an investigation is underway in the said case.
