🧵 Hey Nashville, for those of you preparing your hearts to shout “Hosanna” today and don’t feel much like dancing around the church waving your little palm branch. 1/5
“Hosanna, God Save Us,” is a political rally cry. It’s coming from oppressed Jews desperately wanting to kick their Roman tyrants out of Israel. As the people shout, Jesus never appears too interested in their celebrations but he never chastises or abandons them. 2/5
They think Jesus is headed to the temple to grab power but Jesus is headed to the cross to die to the powers. He’s headed to do something about our suffering, to empathize with humanity and bring us to oneness with the creator. 3/5
Today is the perfect day to remember that we often don’t know what we need from God, all we know is that we are hurting and want Justice, peace, and mercy. Just for today, hold onto the hope that God does know our longing and is doing something about it. 4/5
Go on and shout your “Hosannas,” while you grieve and lament our nation’s crisis of gun violence. The kingdom is near. 5/5
