Update on #AlAqsa: Again today, Israeli soldiers storm AlAqsa & attack Palestinian worshippers. This video documents a brutal attack against a young lady while people plead with the soldiers to leave her be. Video from @AlQastalps
In this video Israeli soldiers literally walk all over the prayer mats of worshippers and disrupt their prayers. Israel wants to decides when, how and how much Palestinians get to worship in their Mosque. It’s a determined provocation & egregious violation of basic rights.
Lawyers in Jerusalem say bet. 400 & 500 Palestinians were detained last night at AlAqsa. They confirm that most those carrying Jerusalem ID’s will be released but get banned from the holy site. Unclear what will happen to the rest.
The Jordanian Waqf has issued a statement condemning the attacks and calling for international intervention. Image

Watch: Video showing the aftermath of the violent Israeli assault on the #AlAqsaMosque overnight. This was the clinic. It is completely destroyed.
A few important facts to keep in mind about Al Aqsa: 1) Israel has no sovereign right over the holy site as per int'l law. It has an obligation to respect & protect the historic & legal status quo.
2) This means that Israeli forces have no right to decide when or how prayers can be held at the compound. This is an issue of freedom of worship and Israel has made a habit of violating it all year round but especially during Ramadan.

..is consistent with this gov’s steps to annex the territory. It’s also an indication of the kind of political persecution that awaits Palestinians this year byway of dispossession & displacement. Criminalizing civil society work, particularly that of orgs working on advocacy &
..accountability means that this gov wants to reduce the 🇵🇸 cause once again to humanitarian issues, i.e. roll back decades of work & international engagement on the issue. Quashing debate on the political & legal nature of the Palestinian cause is not technical. It’s strategic.

Palestinian government decided to grant Palestinian merchants licences to import livestock, namely cows. This is part of a strategy for Palestinian economy to become less dependent on Israel, create jobs, and possible save Palestinian consumers money thru direct import
Israeli government was livid. Livestock farmers in Israel protested. Israeli 'defense' minister announces retaliation: Palestinians are not allowed to export vegetables and fruit to Israel.

2/ Abbas to Arab League recalls Balfour Declaration, made part of British mandate of Palestine. The Declaration only referred to 'civil and religious rights to non-Jewish communities' in Palestine, i.e. Palestinians (who were 92+% of population) - draws parallel to the Trump plan
3/ Netanyahu objected to Oslo Accords from the beginning. After Rabin was assassinated, all negotiations ended because Netanyahu does not believe in peace. When Olmert came to power, we achieved progress - we agreed on 70% of issues then Olmert was imprisoned and everything ended
