I’m going to link some tweets below about what the news isn’t showing you in India. A massive #WorkerFarmerRally today. Thousands of agricultural and industrial workers reached Delhi to rally in opposition to the govt’s neoliberal policies that favor corporates.
They began travelling to Delhi two days ago.

Newsclick says "thousands" of workers and farmers. If you look at NDTV's report it says "hundreds".

"sea of people" that was completely invisibilized beyond a couple of short write-ups that don't say anything about exactly why these workers and farmers are there.

So why has this rally happened?

1. Unemployment.
They marched through Connaught Place, without blocking an entire road. Peaceful.

There seem to be more than NDTV's "hundreds"

2. Weakening of MNREGA by reducing allocations. MNREGA helps puts food on the plates for poor folks. It needs to be strengthened, not weakened.

3. Why GST on essential food items?

CPI(M) claims "tens of thousands" (NDTV really? "hundreds"?

They want to tax the corporates, introduce wealth tax.

NOTE: There is no Mandir-Masjid, Hindu-Muslim whinging anywhere.

5. They want to defend the forest and land rights of adivasi communities from corporates that are aided in such takeovers by state policies.

Note: Still no religious whinging and violence anywhere.

6. They have some suggestions that actually sound workable (IMHO).

So this is something I am going to ask people to read. It is a story about Prof. Tamara Kay who has faced harassment for writing about reproductive rights. Her co-author on these pieces is one of my best friends, Prof. Susan Ostermann.

I’ve seen their work hitting back at the denial of reproductive rights and care for women in the US. Everytime a piece came out Susan would send me a message about it. They’ve written widely and strongly. I had some idea of the harassment they faced.
This piece details it. Religion in an educational institution and the power of the Christian right lobbying about abortion is the core of this situation. All I know is these are brave women. I will always stand by them.

A story that every national media should be looking into.

Yashwant Sahdev Shinde is/was associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. On August 29, 2022, he filed a sworn affidavit before Extra Jt. District and Sessions Judge, Nanded.

What was in the affidavit?👇🏽
Shinde says he was 18 when he became associated with RSS and VHP in 1990.

Later he served as Chief of Bajrang Dal (it isn’t specified at what level or which state), and left that to join Garjana which is an “aggressive” part of the ABVP (a students Union).
In 1999 Shinde was told by one Indresh Kumar to “get hold of some boys having fighting spirit”.

Shinde took 8 young men to Jammu where “they received training in modern weaponry from the Indian Army Jawans”.

This article has more holes than Swiss cheese.
This is a very very sophisticated way to justify and legitimize racism.
Across the world the failure of capitalism wrt distribution of wealth has not been acknowledged by conservatives. Instead, the ire of people has been turned on immigrants. They steal jobs, they cheat and steal and create chaos and crime.

Dude bro you should have hung out with my set. We literally all thought the Congress was awful because of 1984. I know exactly how many people the reports said were killed in 1984. I have literally read every one of those inquiry reports. But the thing is at least back then they
bothered to arrive at some number or some figure, however inaccurate. They didn't just hide behind non-available data or pretend that something didn't happen.

Lynchings have gone sharply upwards since 2014. I was skeptical until I started looking at the data myself.
There is a direct connection between online hate speech and real-world harm to people. There is a direct connection when news anchors endorse slogans like "dash ke gaddaron ko, goli maaron ...", and someone goes and fires a gun at a protest.
