If corporations really succeeded or failed in a fair marketplace, they wouldn't need to hire lobbyists or get subsidies or tax breaks.
Some like to say that laborers fall into poverty because of laziness and don't deserve a safety net. But if the big corporations were people, they would be the biggest moochers of all time.
The more research I do into Reconstruction, the more I realize that a big motivator behind the Civil War was the demand that wealthy people have the legal right to completely control their workers.
Legal slavery may have ended with the 13th Amendment, but wage slavery is alive and well.
The federal govt spends nearly $900 million dollars a year on corporate welfare. So, if corporations are people, they are the most dependent, lazy, needy people I know. They should have to pee in a cup to get their tax credits.

The same corporations that get tens of millions in subsidies, without contributing much in taxes, go to DC and complain about regulations. Yet, people think it's fair to make a regular worker take a drug test to get a few dollars in food assistance?

By the way, the US govt gave 100s of millions of acres of our land (native land, actually) to corporations at the same time they told formerly enslaved people that they couldn't afford to just hand out land. Told them to fend for themselves.
So, get out of here with that "labor unions are greedy" and someone who refuses to work unless they're being paid is "quiet quitting." Nearly every conflict and law in this nation is founded on a desire to control the lives of the workforce.
My book Do Nothing suggests that capitalism replaced religion in the US. Brand logos are our religious icons. The belief that economic growth is an unqualified good amounts to a doctrine of faith.

Laws in this country are often designed to limit the ability of workers to decide their own hours, set their own wages, keep the profits from their work. We don't benefit from our own hard work. Since 1979, productivity went up 65%, wages rose 17%
epi.org/productivity-p…
The average worker earned $241/week in 1979. Today, it's $998/week.
The average CEO earned $29,000/week in 1979.
Today, it's $313,461.
Worker pay has risen 17%
CEO pay has risen 1,322%

It amazes me that the campaign is #fightfor15.
If our weekly wage increased the same amount that CEO pay did, the average weekly income would be $318,602.
Let's fight for $318,602 a week.
Thank you for your attention. Daily rant against injustice is now concluded.
Quite a coincidence that this just showed up in my timeline. This is what I'm talking about.

If your instinctive reaction to Angel Reese was negative, don't waste time getting defensive and worrying that ppl with think you're racist. You'll miss this golden opportunity! Your implicit bias has leaked out and that means you can take action.
In general, don't ever waste time wondering if other ppl think you're racist. You are racist. You can't grow up in the US w/o absorbing racist assumptions about other people. Put on your big girl pants and accept the truth, then make it your mission to grow. Grow out of racism.
Imagine: there's a leak in your pipes but you don't know it. Then someone knocks a hole in the wall and reveals the problem, you don't get mad and shout, "MY PIPES AREN'T LEAKING! I'm not a leakist!! Why is everything about leaks??""

One thing you learn as the child of a parent with Narcissistic Personality Disorder: they instinctively know how to manipulate through conflict.
Narcissists (the clinical kind, not the literary metaphor) see anyone who is not actively supporting & helping them as enemies. If you're not with them, you are a threat.
That creates a fear in those close to them that they have to prove how supportive and helpful they are, or they'll be ostracized and exiled. If you can't convince a narcissist that you love them, you will likely become a target of their rage.

Most of America did not want the court to overturn Roe v. Wade. Most of America thinks it was the wrong decision.
But the US is under minority rule.
I am not speaking metaphorically or apocryphally. And if you don't believe me, listen to the excellent season 4 of @SceneOnRadio.

@SceneOnRadio Or read the many well-researched articles explaining how our nation became one in which a small number of people were able to dictate to the majority.

Some facts, based on decades of global research:
1. Abortion bans like those which will now become law in many states do NOT decrease the number of abortions. Banning abortions doesn't lower abortion rates.

2. Criminalizing abortions does lead to an increase in maternal deaths. The annual number of pregnancy-related deaths would increase by 21% overall. Among Black woman, this percentage would increase 33%."

3. Abortion rates were on the decline for 30 years while the procedure was legal, which an uptick registering in 2020.

Brett Kavanaugh in confirmation hearing: "[Roe] is an important precedent... [Roe and Casey] have been reaffirmed many times. Casey is precedent on precedent."
Neil Gorsuch in confirmation hearing: "Roe v. Wade...is a precedent of SCOTUS. It has been reaffirmed...A good judge will consider it as precedent."

I had an abortion when I was 19 after birth control failed me. I've never regretted it. Having a child as a teenager would have derailed my life and I can't imagine how badly I would have failed that child.
A reminder: Most Americans think abortion should be legal in all or most cases.

One of the many thoughts circling in my head is a selfish one: thank God I'm not a young woman anymore.

I'm so sorry, sisters. I'm so sorry you are in this position and have to add this grief and fear on top of all the other anxieties of getting through life as a woman
