Are we building the great firewall of EU?

The new regulations is called the cyber resilience act. It aims to become the RGPD for cyber.

Lots of questions I will discuss in my talk Friday at 9 pm.

There has been a shift in the EU approach to cyber and cyber warfare since the war in Ukraine. This will be very interesting to follow.

The first evening of the FIC was very interesting.
Three types of conversations
-Industry catchup
-Political gossips
-High-level geopolitical insights (don’t forget lots of former intelligence directors and analysts are attending)

Industry-wise, the growth in the space is extremely high. Lots of opportunities but a massive talent shortage. Like in other sectors, the money promised by the gov is not really here, but they seem to manage.

The question of international growth vs. sovereignty is clearly asked. We need more clarity on what, where, and with whom it is not ok to work with in the cybersecurity space for French companies. This is a similar question for the cloud.

Politically, I can see that the government has fully adopted the digital sovereignty spiel but has difficulty addressing changing geopolitical and legal challenges.
For example FISA law update later this year , more than Cloud act, will define the validity of the data transfers.

Are we too late in the game of digital sovereignty ?
That leads to the geopolitical conversations.

EU vs. NATO, who should drive cybersecurity and cyber warfare rules of engagement? @ThierryBreton and the EU are building a new doctrine; what is the new doctrine of France in the aftermath of the Ukrainian war?
It is not very clear to me yet.

Nobody is talking about AI here, and they should. I will update my slides a bit to include this. One conversation I had was spot-on and terrifying. I am always under Chatham's rules, but it is very close to what @vkhosla discussed here.
