1. Hanuman is to Life, what Consciousness is to the Universe.

Hanuman is the Prana Shakti that flows within all of us. It is by worshiping Hanuman, it is by meditating upon him, it is by focusing on our Prana that we embark on the journey of self-realization.

#HanumanJayanti Image
2. This is why he is called Pavan Putra. He is the deity guarding Prana.
3. “राम दूत अतुलित बल धामा

अंजनि-पुत्र पवनसुत नामा”

And consciously watching Prana during meditation is how we still our restless minds, turn inwards and embark on the most wonderful journey that anyone can ever take.
4. Many, under the influence of ‘scientific temper’ of Nehru try to explain his monkey face by various 'historical reasons' citing that how he belonged to a tribe living in jungles and thus was came to called as a Vanara, and so on and so forth.
5. He has the face of a Vanara because he represents the control that we can have on our restless minds by watching our Prana. He has the chitta of a monkey but at the same time, being Pavan Putra, the devata of Prana, he also has the control over Prana.
6. By meditating upon his form we come to realize that Chitta can be controlled and stilled by Prana. This is how we gain victory over the outward looking chitta, or mind and turning it inwards, make it disappear completely.
7. That is when Knowledge appears, unencumbered by the association of ego and chitta.
8. Of all the devatas, it is Hanuman whose presence I have always felt to be so potent. Of all the deities, he is the one whom I first turn to whenever I am weak and fearful. He seems to be so literally omnipresent. After all he is the Prana Devata.
9. If Rama is the Param Tattva, the very goal of Self-realization, Hanuman is the agency through which we achieve that goal. He is the key to self-knowledge.

“राम रसायन तुम्हरे पासा

सदा रहो रघुपति के दासा”
10. If Rama is Enlightenment or Ultimate Knowledge Itself, Hanuman, being Prana Devata is the agency through which we achieve our goal. This reflects in Shri Ramacharitamanasa. Hanuman is the one who makes Rama's journey easy.

“बिद्यावान गुनी अति चातुर

राम काज करिबे को आतुर”
11. He is the guard to the gates of self-knowledge. Focusing on Prana can open the path to knowledge. In the same way, meditating upon Hanuman can open the gates to Rama.

राम दुआरे तुम रखवारे

होत न आज्ञा बिनु पैसारे
12. He is the one who does even the most impossible of tasks effortlessly. He has everything in his power, but he forgets his true powers and remembers them only when invoked.
13. Our Prana Shakti too lies dormant until it is invoked and once invoked with the agency of the Guru there is nothing that is not in its power.
14. Hanuman has always been important to us, but it was Goswami Tulsidas who revived his worship with a fervor unseen before and he became a presence in everyone's chitta. In the south Samarth Ramdas did the same. It was perhaps the need of those hard and bloody times.
15. Ever since, at least in a large part of India, Hanuman has become synonymous with Hinduism. It is easiest to approach him, to find his temple, to serve him and to invoke him. He is always at one's call, if only one truly invokes him. He truly is the Prana Devata.
16. But he demands humility and honesty and a life actively pursuing truth with bhakti bhava and no vikalpa in sadhana.
17. He is to the Vaishnava Tradition, what Ganapati is to Tantra, the devata of Prana.

Hanuman with his beautiful face, calm composure, and every golden hair on his body shining with the potency of knowledge, is the one we invoke today.
18. Don't forget to worship, invoke and meditate upon Hanuman, your Prana Shakti this Hanuman Jayanti.

1. The Tibetan Legacy of 'the Great Game' for India

The British entered a treaty with Tibet called the Anglo-Tibetan Convention in September of 1904. This Convention guaranteed that the paths of Tibet would always be open to India. Image
2. And that Tibet would not negotiate with any other foreign powers. The Indian Army under the British would keep occupying the Chumbi valley. Image
3. The treaty specifically excluded China from this agreement, whose ambassador was present in Lhasa at that time. This is significant as this fact makes the Anglo-Tibetan Convention basically a treaty between India and Tibet.

1. Rama is a hero so universal, there is seldom any other figure, in Indic culture or outside it which can rival his popularity and universality.

Why is this so?

Because he is both the greatest of heroes and the commonest of men, at the same time.

#RamNavmi
2. He is a very different hero than most others. He is full of talent, courage and chivalry but chooses to use it very wisely..
3. Events are rarely in his control. (I know as a Vishnu avatar, he orchestrates it all at the highest level, but he also respects his human avatara and goes along with the story).

1. The British Expedition to Tibet : The Race for Lhasa

In 1893 with the final mapping and bridging of the Pamir Gap on one hand, the fixing of Afghan-Russian Empire border on the other, most of central Asia was finally divided amongst three great powers.
2. China had reclaimed Xinxiang, though every nominally, which it had earlier lost to the Islamic Jihad of Yakub Beg.
3. With Afghanistan firmly in the British camp after the Second Afghan War and after the Durand Line had finally fixed its border with British India, the only independent player in Central Asia was the vast tract of land which was more mythical than real: Tibet.

1. The Pundits: Discovering the Source of the Brahmaputra

Another Pundit Kintup was given the charge of discovering whether Tsang-po really was the Brahmaputra, as had been suspected after Kishen Singh’s and Nain Singh’s secret missions. Image
2. For this, he had to log 500 tree logs in Tibet and then send a message through one of his companions to India to check whether the logs floated down the Brahmaputra or not.
3. Tragedy struck and his message never reached British India but his endeavor was so stupendous that it still seems like a fairy tale.
