The Arab slave trade was the longest yet least discussed of the two major slave trades.
Existed For over 700 years in Africa, before the inception of European Trans-Atlantic slave trade.
🪡Thread🧵
The practice of slavery in the middle east is not centuries(100s of yrs) old but rather thousands(AD) of years old. The Arab slave trade was the longest yet least discussed of the two major slave trades. The Arab slave trade of Blacks in Southeast Africa predates(existed before)
the European transatlantic slave trade by 700 years. Arab slave trade continued in one form or another up until the 1960s, perhaps till today. Slavery in Mauritania was criminalized as recently as August 2007.
Most accounts suggest that the bulk of the african slaves caught
or bought by Arab slavers died enroute to Arabia. By “most” What’s meant is over than 50%.
Some historians estimate that between A.D. 650 and 1900, 10 million to 20 million people were enslaved by Arab slave traders. Others believe over 20 million enslaved Africans alone had
been delivered through the trans-Saharan route alone to the Islamic world. Dr. John Alembellah Azumah estimates in his 2001 book “The Legacy of Arab-Islam in Africa” that over 80 million more Black people died over that route.
Unlike the Western Trans Atlantic slave trade where
African slaves were allowed to mate and produce family that in turn grow as slave so that the white men wont bother coming back to Africa for more slave, in the case of Arabia slaves from Africa, The slaves were never allowed to mate and procreate. The Arab slave trade typically
dealt in the sale of castrated male slaves. Black boys between the age of 8 and 12 had their scrotums and penises completely amputated to prevent them from reproducing, so that they could not form a large Black population in the Arab countries. Children were especially at risk,
and the Islamic slave market demand for children was much greater than the American one. About six of every 10 boys bled to death during the procedure, according to some sources, but the high price brought by eunuchs on the market made the practice profitable.
Many believe the treatment of slaves, african or otherwise, in Arabia contributed to the high mortality rate which lead to the subsiquent high demand for more slaves.
Africans were seen as less than human and perhaps still are in parts of Arabia. The term for a black person is
apparently ab’d or abid in Arabic which means slave. Such inferences leave little doubt of the sort esteme black africans were held in Arabic society and maybe even today.
Meanwhile In the beginning there was some level of mutual respect between the Blacks and the more
lighter-skinned Arabs. However, as Islam, sense of conqueror and the demand for enslaved Blacks grew, so did racism toward Africans.
As casual association with Black skin and slave began to be established, racist attitudes towards Blacks began to manifest in Arabic language and
literature. The word for slave —abid — became a colloquialism for African. Other words, such as haratin, express social inferiority of Africans.
The Islamic injunctions against the enslavement of Muslims led to the massive importation of slaves from the outside. African Muslims
were however never captured as slaves due to the Islamic legal views. it was not in the interest for Arab slavers to convert enslaved Africans to the religion. Since converting enslaved Africans to Islam would grant them more rights and reduce the potential reservoir of people
to enslave. Arab Enslavers Avoided Teaching Islam to Blacks to Justify Enslaving Them.
In theory, slavery in Islamic law does not have a racial or color basis. Arabs drew slaves from all racial groups. During the eighth and ninth centuries of the Fatimid Caliphate, most of the
slaves were Europeans (called Saqaliba), captured along European coasts and during wars. Some men were castrated to be eunuchs in domestic service, and the practice of neutering male slaves was not limited to only Black males. “The calipha in Baghdad at the beginning of the 10th
Century had 7,000 black eunuchs and 4,000 white eunuchs in his palace,” writes author Ronald Segal in his 2002 book “Islam’s Black Slaves: The Other Black Diaspora.”
Slave merchants would double the price of female slaves, this was because the Arab merchants were more focused on
concubinage capturing women & girls who were turned into sex slaves.
Unlike the Arabs with greater preference for women, European merchants were interested in strongly built young men as labourers in their farms.

One man ruled for 32 years, turning Congo into his personal empire of immense power and wealth.
—he successfully held power in the Congo until his historic fall in 1997.🧵
His name is Mobutu Sese Seko Kuku Ngbendu wa Za Banga.
Many may know him as the leopard-hat-wearing dictator or the man who renamed Congo to Zaire, but Mobutu was far more than just an authoritarian figure.
There were the good, the bad, and the outright scandalous of this very Man.
He was a MASTERCLASS in dictatòrship and excess.
1st, the Ugly Stuff.
Mobutu came to power during a time of chaòs and uncertainty in the Congo.
In 1960, the Congo gained independence from Belgium, but the transition was anything but smooth.
During his 42-years reign, Gaddafi faced numerous accusations of crimes, many of which he was guilty. However, the claim he supplied his soldiers with Viagra and còndoms to promote mass ràpe during the Libyan civil wàr could be the height🧵.
Libyan government allegedly bought containers of Viagra-type drugs at some point— it was publicly confirmed.
Libya forces used rápe as a weapon of war against rebels—ICC
A defected Major from the Libyan army stated, "The order to rape wasn't given to the regular army. Col. Gaddafi knew we would never accept it; it was given to the mercenaries."
A lot happened in March 2011:
In March 2011, Libya-based doctors found Viagra in the pockets of pro-Gaddafi soldiers, according to Al-jazeera.
Libyan psychologist Seham Sergiwa reported widespread rapes by government soldiers during the 2011 conflict. She distributed questionnaires in opposition-held areas and along the Libya–Tunisia border, receiving responses from 259 women who reported being raped.
How Muammar Gaddafi’s $33 Billion Man Made River Project saved Thousands Of Lives In Libya 🇱🇾.
Despite what you hear about Muammar Gaddafi in the media, there is no doubt that he was the pioneer of one of the biggest civilian development projects in the world. Libya’s ex-president didn’t waste his forty-two-year rule on all fun and games like it has been portrayed, and the Great Man-Made River is a testimony to this fact. Gaddafi wanted to provide fresh water for his people. Thus he worked towards turning the desert green and making Libya self-sufficient regarding food and water supply.
Libya is located in the northeastern Africa, and like other countries around it, it’s one of the sunniest and driest desert on the planet. Fresh water sources are scarce, and there are areas where many years might pass without seeing any rainfall at all. Before the project, less than 5% of the country had enough water for settled agriculture, and other than the much expensive desalination plants on the coast, there were no real means for any water supply.
But the game changed when in 1953, vast quantities of ancient water aquifers were discovered that dated back to the Ice Age. This was supposed to be an oil exploration mission, but instead, the team discovered four huge water basins with capacities, each ranging between 4,800 and 20,000 cubic km in capacity. Further studies demonstrated that most of this water was collected between 38,000 and 14,000 years ago, a time when the Saharan region enjoyed a temperate climate.
After the fall of Tripoli to forces of the opposition National Transitional Council (NTC) in August 2011, Gaddafi and his family escaped the Libyan capital. He was widely rumored to have taken refuge in the south of the country. In fact, Gaddafi had fled in a small convoy to
Sirte on the day Tripoli fell. His son, Mutassim Gaddafi, followed in a second convoy.
On 19 October 2011, Libya's prime minister, Mahmoud Jibril, said that Gaddafi was believed to be in the southern desert, reestablishing his government among pro-Gaddafi tribes in the region.
By that point, the NTC had just taken control of the pro-Gaddafi town of Bani Walid and were close to taking control of Gaddafi's home town, the tribal heartland of Sirte, east of Tripoli. According to most accounts, Gaddafi had been with heavily armed regime loyalists in several
"In Inter Milan, there was a rule, or rather a law:
'If we lose two consecutive matches, our weekly salaries will be delayed until we regain our form.'
But Mario Balotelli defied this rule.
One day, we lost a cup match and a Serie A match within three days, so we all knew our
weekly salaries would be delayed.
During training, Balotelli was missing. Mourinho tried to contact him, but there was no response.
Half an hour later, the president arrived with Balotelli, visibly angry, and said:
'Does Mario really understand Italian?'
We said, 'Yes,' but he
came to my office looking for his money. I told him it was two consecutive losses, so the salaries would be delayed. He told me he didn’t care if it was 100 consecutive losses; he just wanted his money.
Mario said to him:
'I am not part of your problem. Don’t involve me in
