Just heard about the details of my wife's active shooter training at LAUSD, and I'm horrified at how insufficient the safety measures are for our children and staff.😠
For instance, at the school where both my wife and daughter are, they're advised to gather in the auditorium during an active shooter situation. But the doors can only be locked with a special allen wrench that only ONE staff member has access to. If they're not there? Tough luck
Teachers are encouraged to buy pool noodles to wedge in their door jambs, removing them only when the shooter approaches. Is this seriously the best solution we've got?
My wife's classroom doesn't even have a proper lock. In an emergency, she'd have to hide in a small closet with a flimsy wooden door and just hope for the best.
It's infuriating that educators have to deal with this at all, but it's even more maddening how little the @LASchoolPolice has done to prepare and protect our schools. This level of unpreparedness is inexcusable. 😡 #ProtectOurChildren

So if you're lucky enough to sell a show, typically you're paid to write a pilot script and possibly a series bible. That fee is usually pretty decent; you can support yourself comfortably for a while, as you work and then wait for decisions to be made.
If the show is greenlit, you can eventually expect to mount a writers room. Making a weekly rate, and then getting a script fee on top of that for the episodes you might be assigned to write. Ours was 4 weeks. Writing teams are paid as one entity.
So a very common thing to happen on a film set is that you find yourself suddenly running behind schedule, yet you still have an entire scene left to film. You were planning on having the 1/2 day after lunch to shoot it, but now you only have 3 hours.
It's even harder because you were planning on breaking your grip and electric team early so they could pre-light the new set during lunch. But now you have to eat that time too.
Oh, and you have to wrap one of the actors 1/2 hour early because of that thing they agreed to, and you were originally planning on finishing the day with insert shots using her hand double. So now you have even less time.
