THEY CAME FOR BENIN...

Let's be clear, the Nigerian Kingdom with the longest history of interaction with Europeans wasn't the Great Oyo Empire, not Kano emirate, not the Arochukwus of Abia but the Great Benin Kingdom, that by the 1890s, outsiders marveled at Benin's exposure.

But all that was about to change, the Kingdom once famous for its hospitable ambience and crave for exposure suddenly became withdrawn almost to the point of total isolation. The Benin Kingdom became weary of the Europeans and rarely entertained. Why?

As far back as 1979, when the population of Nigeria was barely 70M and the entire population of Kano was about ⅓ of its current population, the state still managed to present over 1.2M votes in d 1979 presidential elections, meaning Camels and Bulls may have voted. Fast forward

-to 2023, An estimated 200M population, over 5M collected PVCs, the Great Kano still presented about same as it did in 1979, 44 years ago...Why? BVAS. Absent BVAS in that election, Kwakwanso alone would garner more than 3M votes from Kano.
