@da_hatt@NU_SCCJ (2/7) The study analyzes the time savings and spatial precision offered by GDT as compared to calls for service. Time savings measures the number of seconds between the GDT alert and CFS. Spatial precision measures the distance between the GDT and CFS locations.
(3/7) GDT alerts occurred a median of 93 seconds before CFS. This represents approximately 12% of median police/EMS response and EMS travel time to nearest trauma center. In other words, GDT offers a 12% “head start” for the victim transport process
(4/7) GDT alerts were a median of 234.91 feet from the CFS location. While this is less than the average street segment length in KC, GDT and CFS locations were geocoded to different street segments in over 50% of cases
(5/7) In over 26% of cases, GDT and CFS were geocoded to different street segments that do not intersect, meaning that officers responding to the CFS location would be a meaningful distance away from where the gunshot occurred
(6/7) Regression models identified situational characteristics that influence GDT performance. The results suggests both times savings & spatial precision decrease in cases that are more conducive to citizen reporting.
(7/7) This is the first study from our @OJPNIJ funded project on GDT in Kansas City and Chicago. We’ll be publishing many more articles from this project over the next year. Stay tuned!

Missing some Tweet in this thread? You can try to
force a refresh
(1/5) In addition to generating healthy debate this tweet demonstrates the benefit of Green Open Access, specifically in terms of increasing public reach. In ~30 hrs since I tweeted this the version of record has been viewed 19 times; the OA postprint has been viewed 174 times
(2/5) No one emailed me to ask for the paper bc a public version was readily available. That’s why “email me if can’t access the paper” proclamations, while well meaning, miss the point. Spend 10 minutes to make a postprint OA if you want the public to access to your research
(3/5) In the past I’ve tried to convince academics to make their postprints publicly available via Green OA for social justice and utilitarian reasons; scientific research should be accessible to the public. I still stand by this as the most important aspect of Green OA
