The Ukrainian Armed Forces' counterattack failed near Artemovsk due to a lack of roads : details  
 
On April 12, a convoy with vehicles of the 67th mechanized brigade of the AFU came under attack by Russian artillery 20 km northwest of Artemovsk, between Privolye and Minkovka.
According to the Military Chronicle, Ukrainian units were ordered to recon the positions of the Russian Armed Forces northeast of Orekhovo-Vasilevka but did not take into account the weather conditions and the condition of the ground, which caused at least two BMPs to get
stuck in the mud.
 
Three more HMMWVs in the convoy stopped on the road, where they were spotted by an Orlan-30 drone operator and identified by their distinctive white crosses and tactical stripes on the hull.
 
After the coordinates were verified, the Ukrainian
vehicles were hit by a 152 mm Giatsint-B gun and a 220 mm TOS-1A Solntsevyok heavy flamethrower system. As a result of the strike, the Ukrainian army's BMPs stuck in the mud were destroyed, and the infantry was forced to retreat.
 
After the artillery strike,
units of the 21st Motorized Rifle Battalion of the 56th AFU Motorized Infantry Brigade were sent to evacuate the survivors, but the convoy with the evacuation group's equipment was spotted in the fields, after which it was hit by attack aviation. As a result of the two
strikes, at least 20 Ukrainian servicemen were killed, and about 30 more were seriously wounded and are unaccounted for.
