One. More. Time. #StarTrekPicard Episode 10. Brilliantly written & directed by the architect of this season, @TerryMatalas. But you knew that already. So I'll tell you a story you didn't know. I'm gonna bare my ass, so bear with me... Image
I was up for staffing Dec 2019. I juuuust missed writing on a huge series a month prior. Heartbreak doesn't even begin to describe it. So my hopes were sky high for Trek, one of my dream shows. Until my rep called: Picard was full. Barely missed. Again. Heartbreak deja vu. But...
My rep told me Terry and his incredible assistant @nicolefalsetti (now a writer too!) said to hold tight. "This isn't over." You hear that a lot in this town. A LOT. It's a nice thing to say, but people rarely follow up. No one ever calls back. Except... he did...
Dear reader, ten months later, Terry offered me a spot. TEN months. Do you know how extraordinary that is? Let me be clear, I had never worked for him before. If you're an old friend, sure, you MIGHT get that call, but this? Never happens.

There was just one catch...
Despite having written on an entire show during the interim, the network required me to repeat a level. Happens often, especially to minorities. Everyone does it. Saves them $$. They have you over a barrel and they know it. Ok, fine. Except to Terry, it wasn't...
"I'll fix this. Trust me." Again, you hear that a lot. But with so many moving pieces, usually nothing happens. Except... it did. Terry fought for a rare, mid-season bump for this minority writer. That's why you see my name in the fancy pants end credits from 306 onward...
I thanked him, he waved it off, "Ehhh, it's nothing," and moved on. Terry being Terry. Now, this isn't to take away from ALL of our amazing writers, cast, crew and artists -- television is 100% a team sport. It took thousands to make this season, and we are all on that screen...
But this dude not only changed the trajectory of my career with his kindness, he *fought* for me like a junkyard dog. He trusted me on the page, gave me precious set experience -- and he made a literal dream come true. That's why I'll always be grateful...
So as you watch tonight's finale, raise a glass. To everyone who made #StarTrekPicard S3 -- and to a captain who fought for his crew.

See you out there 🖖
