Did you know that in The Netherlands parents still have not equally paid maternity leave and that "getting" a baby is still a big financial burden.
If you want to know, espacially from a #newmom perspective check the facts, hereunder.
So, let's take an average couple, which has graduated with a bachelore degree.
(With a studydebt, bc no extra family funding available). Both are working in their own fields, within a corporate job, having a car and a rent house. Bc buying an house as a starter... ⤵️
ain't gonna happen in the current market. This lovely couple, works both fulltime and earns together approx. € 50 000,- yearly.
Let's assume the childbearing person is a women, which earns 13% less than the partner. So €50000,- / 2 = €25000,-.
€25000,- × 0.13 = €3250,- ⤵️
That means, she earns €3250,- less than her partner a year. So €25000,- - €3250,- = €21750,-
Bc her partner earns 13% more that means, it gets yearly €28250,-
When couple gets pregnant; the bearing person is 43% more disadvantaged, of finding a new/different job. At this ⤵️
point financially there is a 56% risk of being dependant of the partner. Fast forward to last trimester, the average first baby costs ~€2700,-
(Nibud).
Baby born 🥳
The bearing person gets 3 months of 100% paid leave, partner gets 1 week 100% and 4 weeks 70% so the childcare ⤵️
balance is off after 5 weeks, the childbearing person (if no social support) is full time first caring person, till end of 3 months.
Baby 3 months: couple takes all possible leave.
Parental leave is 70% paid for 9 workweeks long for childbearing person, if used directly after ⤵️
Maternity leave 1 day a week, 1 year long.
Means €21750,- / 52 weeks = €418,27 weekly loan.
€418,27 / 5 = €83,65 payed a day.
€83,65 x 70% = €58,56 payed a day with leave.
So, for 1 year:
€83,65 x 4 = €334,60
€335,60 + €58,65 = €393, 25 payed a workweek. ⤵️
€393,25 x 52 = €20449,- a year for the bearing person.
For the partner there is unpaid parental leave, if used 1 day a weak, for 2 years.
€28250,- / 52 = €543,27 a workweek
€543,27 / 5 = €108,65 a day.
€543,27 - €108,65 = €434,61 a workweek with leave
€434,61 x 52 ⤵️
= €22600,- a year.
That means, both parents have 1 day leave, on first year, if childcare shared equally, than there is only need for 3 days of daycare.
In 2023 an hourly rate of €9.06 is subsidised.
3 days of 8 hours = 24 hours a week of daycare.
24 x €9.06 = €217,44 ⤵️
€217,44 x 52 = €11306,88 costs of daycare for one year.
Bc of income boxes, different type of % is given according to income. In this case: 83,7% will be subsidised.
€11306,88 x 0,163 = €1843,02 daycare costs a year. The yearly sum for this couple of having a baby is; ⤵️
Bearing person € 20449,-
Partner € 22600,-
Daycare cost € 1843,02
First baby cost € 2700,00
--------------------------------
End of year € 38505,98

That means earning difference between parents and non-parents of €11494,02 a year.⤵️
Percentage and numbers are from; @WOMENInc, @Nibud and @Rijksoverheid.
In comparison, where are fellow neighbour country's have e.g.:
Germany: 14 months paid leave
Sweden: 15 months 80% paid leave
Finland: 14 months paid leave
Denmark: 11 months mom, 8 months other parent. ⏹️
