Some believe that expulsion is only a right protected under the constitution for the votes— meaning (vote someone out of office.)
With that said—- we will have to watch what happens on the floor, and then ultimately probably what happens in the rules committee.
Now if it were to happen- how would the seat be filled?
If a member is expelled:
Specifically, in this scenario, it would be kicked to the Missoula Democrats. @missouladems
They would suggest three names. (in previous expulsion cases, central committees, have put forth the name of the expelled member.)
Meaning they could put Zooeys name forward.
The Missoula County Commissioners would then vote, and that person would be in stated as the temporary representative until the next election.
It normally takes some 20 days for the process to work and involves the secretary of state, formal postings, and involvement of county leaders.
It also aging should be noted—
Full transparency:
Many I have spoken to— do not believe the speaker has the ability to actually expel someone, it more than likely would require a floor vote from the body—
It’s a tad confusing/unclear right now .
I’ve spoke to 8 people familiar with the house/county rules. (high level of expertise on this.)
And it’s unclear if expulsion is actually a tool, the speaker could use.
But a formal censure could take place —- that process in the next tweet:
“Both the US and Montana Constitutions protect the freedom of speech and the freedom to protest peacefully for citizens. Those rights do not stop at the doors of the Montana House for anybody, and they..”
“certainly don’t for a duly elected Member of this body whose constituents sent her here to be a voice on their behalf.”
"Earlier this week, the Speaker made a wrong decision to silence an elected member of this body. Speaker Regier has a choice: to be a real leader and get the House back on track doing the work the people sent us here to do…”
RIGHT NOW: Planned Parenthood of Montana has released a statement regarding today:
🧵 “In Montana, and across the country, we have seen the most disgraceful, heartless, and targeted attacks on our LGBTQ+ community this legislative session.”
“And today we are witnessing the most unconscionable act of them all: Silencing and forbidding the presence of an elected official and the 11,000 Montanans that sent Rep. Zooey Zephyr to represent them.”
“Representative Zephyr has courageously broken barriers and spoken truth to power, all while being surrounded by colleagues who misgender and tarnish her.”
OUT OF DC: @PattyMurray has announced she will with other Democrats reintroduce legislation to ensure doctors can provide legal abortion care.
The "Let Doctors Provide Reproductive Health Care Act," would ensure that doctors can continue to provide legal abortion care-

via email she said:
"MAGA Republicans’ nonstop attacks on a woman’s right to choose have created a climate of fear, confusion, and suffering—and have had a chilling effect on the lifesaving work abortion providers do even in states where abortion remains legal,” - @PattyMurray
@PattyMurray “Our bill is a necessary and commonsense step to protect doctors providing legal abortion care and ensure that doctors in states like Washington can continue to provide essential care without being threatened with jail time or lawsuits by out-of-state extremists.”- @PattyMurray
BREAKING: @Kim_AbbottMT (D) has released a statement-
“Today we saw Montanans show up and engage in the democratic process, and some of those Montanans were arrested. To me, it’s an incredible statement in support of the trans, nonbinary, and Two Spirit community,” (1/2)
“and against the Republican agenda that would strip our neighbors of their basic rights, dignity, and humanity.” (2/2)
Minority Leader, Kim Abbott (D)
House GOP leadership has released a statement:
“House Republicans condemn violence and will always stand for civil debate and respect for our processes of government. Today’s riot by far-left agitators damages our discourse and endangered legislators and staff,” (1/3)
